Still having problems and now I'm starting to lose my freaking temper!

I'm following the instructions to find the latest 0702 driver. The instructions in the mini FAQ say that I should go to SETUP, OTHERS and then NETWORK UPDATE. This is all very well, but there isn't a NETWORK UPDATE listed in the OTHERS submenu. I go to OTHERS and I have several selections: BUTTON SOUND (selected to "on"), JAVA FONT SIZE, SLOW/STEP, BD STORAGE, HD-DVD STORAGE and INITIALIZE.

No NETWORK UPDATE selection to be found anywhere.

Please re-read the Mini-FAQ!

You need the January firmware or later and also a Region A Blu-ray code set for Network Update to work. The Non-Region A (e.g - Europe) Blu-ray region codes disable Network Update. You can also install the 0702 Driver by USB Stick/CD/DVD, again in the Mini-FAQ.

I've downloaded everything and gone through it about four freaking times. Everytime I put the disc in it just says DATA and goes to the home menu.

Where do I find the Region A Bluray code? I'm more confused now then when I started!

Right, I've done everything now and gone through the instructions with a fine toothcombe and still nothing.

It's just that same problem. Eveytime I put the CD-R into the player with the downloads on it I just get the same mesage - Data. It then goes to the home menu and doesn't play the disc.

Now I'm in a catch-22 situation - In order to download the latest firmware update, I need to download the driver - but I can't do that if it won't play the disc. And I can't download the firmware updates because it won't play the disc.

Why do I have to download them anyway? I never had this trouble with my PS3. If there was a firmware update availabe, all I had to do was select update from the menu and it'll do it.

Can someone please for the love of god just post me the discs with the downloads already on them? It'll make things a whole lot easier.

Not sure what you have done in details so far, but get the firmware etc (you have downloaded them), extract them onto a USB stick.
Then power down BH200, plug in the stick, reboot. If I recall correctly you will now have the option to upgrade (as it will automatically read the USB stick). There should also be a readme file or similar in the firmware files you downloaded.
There might be some issues with the folder structure on the USB stick, but I believe it is enough that it resides on the root on the USB stick.

Then you burn the region free. make sure you have set the write speed to the lowest possible.
I used a CD-RW when I did mine, so that will work also.

The actual region codes you can find in the faq.

Note that you put the firmware + driver updates on the USB, while you have to burn a CD with the region free program.
(a USB stick will not work for the region free program. ONLY use USB for the firmware+driver)

You might have a firmware prior to when the network update function was implemented. Mine was like that.

After you have managed to update, you could check for updates directly.

OK, so now I think I get it. I need to download the new driver to a USB stick. I've gone onto the LG webiste (http://gb.lgservice.com) and there are two files to download: the actual file itself and the updated guide in PDF.

So I should download both these files to my computer desktop, unzip them, and then send them to the USB stick.

With the BH200 off, insert the USB stick, turn on the player and it should load automatically.

From there I can download firmware updates via Ethernet?

Have you made it yet?
I believe all firmware and driver files are on the LG website. Make sure to get the correct ones. The filenames are in US-dateformat (mm/dd/yyyy). Get the July files.
So get both the firmware and the drivers and extract them onto a USB stick.
Then do as you describe.
It might be enough to just the firmware and then update the driver from Ethernet. Read the faq again, as it has been some time since I did it.

Then you can make it region free using the CD (again, burned on a low speed).

Good luck!

Now I've really lost my freaking patience. I've just bought a USB Stick, and although it fits into the USB slots on both my computer and PS3, it's not fitting into the USB slot on the player.

Never mind, it's all done now! The USB didn't work, but the CD-RW did.... Which I find odd considering the CD-R didn't! But it's done now.

Read the mini-FAQ. Download the SD-region hack. Burn it to a CD-RW (low speed when burning). Boot the BH200 with the CD (load it, turn it off, turn on). As far as I remember this should do it.

Haven't done it more than once since it worked the first time I tried some months ago. In any case check the FAQ here.

Hi all, i have tried several times to download the file in the 1st thread from gsmstore.com.br/codefree%20LG%20BH200.zip
but it keeps coming up as page don't exist. Does any one have a link to another site to get this from. If not maybe someone could e-mail it to me.
Cheers
Peter.

This issue has been sucessfully addressed. Go to the very fist(#1) post on this thread

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...5#post13411895

where you will find all the information you need for region free PAL-NTSC playback as well as switching BD zones on the BH200. Please note that, unlike SD region adjustment, the player cannot be set to BD "region free" status. Instead, changing the EEPROM numbers will allow you to switch from one region to another. In my case, I use 82 for region A and 92 for region B.

Don't worry if you don't understand this now. It is all explained on the thread. Just make sure you follow instructions carefully and only change the FOURTH set of digits. Once you learn this, just print out a label with the instructions and attach it to your player or remote.

Good luck!

I've burned two separate copies of the hack to CD-R's, and both time I just get a message informing me that the BH200 has a data disc inside. No menu, no rejection. I've followed the instructions listed as best I can, could someone perhaps point me to a proper download the hack?

Further, should the CD itself have a specific name when preparing the burn? I sure would like to get this SD unlocked..

Hi, I couldn't find a thread regarding this player so I though I'd start here.

I have a LG HR558D which have come out fairly recently and mine is locked at Region 4 and BD 2 (Australia). I've tried several ways to unlock it and make it region free from other LG model codes, etc but no luck. Also searched endlessly on the internet and nothing so far. The only thing I can bring up on this unit is what looks like a blue eeprom screen by pressing pause and 1472. It brings up four rows of codes with some of them greyed out (shown in brackets below) and the others changable. Can any of these be changed to make it region free?

[00] 41 55 00 A2 (0B) (72) (EB) 7E
[08] (04) (0)5 0(3) 7(2) (80) (00) (00) (00)
[16] (02) (00) (00) (04) (00) (00) (00) (00)
[24] (00) (00) (00) (00) 01 00 00 00

@ pounder43

To the best of my knowledge you can't just read across Hex values from model to model and expect or hope for a workable result.
I'd be really worried to try & I think it would be a surefire way to brick your player.

The answer is, I think, to either find an LG HR558D page and ask there or start one, you can't be alone in having one & wanting an answer to this question.

I have started a thread for the LG 'HR" model range in the hope an answer could be found. Fingers crossed!
