My player is absolutely flawless except for this bug, which happens when the player is set to bitstream audio---once in a while, if I interrupt the video in some way that temporarily stops the audio stream (e.g., skip chapter, reverse), the player will output an MPCM stream of garbage (sounds like pink noise).

I'm assuming that what's going on is that the player momentarily forgets that it's supposed to be bitstreaming, not internally decoding the signal, and it ends up sending a corrupted stream to the AVR.

Is there anybody else with this problem?

This does not occur at all if the player is set to internally decode everything. I'll probably care less about this when DTS-HD MA internal decoding comes along, but for now, it might be bothersome to go into the settings menu everytime I put in a Fox disc.

Who said LG is going to provide a firmware update to allow for internal decoding of DTS-HD Master Audio?

I thought the hardware in the LG BH200 wasn't beefy enough to even decode that.

For a player that originally cost a grand, it should.

I mean, is DTS-HD MA really that complex, compared to TrueHD? It's laziness, more than anything, imo.

FWIW, my Tosh A35 does the exact same thing! Seems to happen most though, with an HD DVD movie and using DD+. So it is not just this player having the problem. Is this happening when you play HD, BD, or DVD movies by the way?

The rumour is that there is an issue with the Broadcom 7440 chip- apparently the DTS-HD MA decoding is broken. The chip itself may need a frimware update to correct the problem. No one knows if it will happen or not as it is my understanding one of the key engineers at Broadcom involved with the chip left.

Anyone recall which chip is in the A35? If it is the Broadcom, then that would make sense. I can find what chips are in BD players here:
http://www.blu-ray.com/players/compare.php
But don't recall where there was a list for the HD players (anymore)

Come to think of it, I don't think I've encountered the problem yet with BDs.

After having tried Sony 300, 500, 350, Panasonic BD30, Samsung 2550 (all being able to bitsream in one way or another), not one BD player did this. But the A35 I have does, no matter which FW I tried too. But I am pretty much sure it was always with the DD (+ and THD) soundtracks, as I don't think HD ever really did DTS HD or HDMA that I can recall. As I tried an XA2 for only a tiny bit, I cannot recall if it did this too though.

The original Sony BD Player cost more than that and that isn't even Profile 1.0 .

I really, really cannot see On-board DTS-HD decoding now. If it was going to happen it would have by now.

What's MPCM?

Well, I just experienced this again with Batman Begins BD, TrueHD track.

Looks like it's another Dolby issue.
