I doubt they'll ever fix it. I'm probably just going to ebay the disc. I think the Blu-ray version works.

Yea, I've been waiting for a good deal on the disc...have not seen one but will certainly be picking up the BD over the HD (unless I can find it for dirt cheap, say $5 or under ).

Holy crap! I just got it to work again. I wouldn't give up on this b*tch. After at least 25 power cycles, changing every conceivable setting (even unplugging the Ethernet cable thinking it was some network content freeze), nothing worked. I then pulled out the NIN HD DVD and put in another HD DVD (Chronicles of Riddick) and it did the exact same thing!! Froze when reaching the menu. After my heart skipped a beat, I power cycled the player and when it came up again, it properly loaded the Riddick HD DVD. I then ejected the Riddick disk and put in the NIN disk and it fully loaded!!

I'm watching it right now! It brought up NIN with three menu choices to the right "North American Winter Tour 2006", "Additional Content" and "Setup". After selecting Dolby True HD I selected the feature. It then brought up a "Play All" as well as all the individual song names for selection. It works like a charm!

I'm set up as 1080P, 24fps, in bitstream (audiophile) mode. So, is the trick to first load a known working HD DVD waiting for the menu to load, ejecting it and then immediately inserting the NIN disk?!?

So that's it. I was able to duplicate the success in getting it to play. First load another HD DVD to the menu, eject it and then put in the NIN disk. It should load up and perfectly!

(If you access the title menu while the feature is playing... you can only exit the menu by selecting "Main Menu". If you select anything else the player will continue playing without responding to the remote.)

Well luckily, the NIN HD DVD is the only title I know of that has this type of quirkiness. Most titles do play just fine, but there are a handful out there that do have some issues. It's still a fairly nice hybrid player and there are only "two-of-a-kind" out there...

That is the only HD DVD I've ever had any problems with. Not worth getting rid of the player for one title.

Ok, I got the NIN HD DVD to work with your work around. And yeah, if you use the pop-up menu the player stops responding to commands.

BTW, is the TrueHD track stereo? I can only get 5.1 with DD.

Ok, I have used image burn for all my firmware burns, an I have used it for firmware 1.4. Goes on my player fine, but here is the catch. Can no longer play Blu-rays??. It will still play SD and HD DVDs but will just spit out any blu-ray. Downgraded the player back to 1.3 and plays blu-rays fine. Any ideas??

Try resetting to defaults and flashing again?

Another title with a similar problem is the French import of Brotherhood of the Wolf HD DVD. Again it's just the menu, because the movie plays fine.

hi Foxbat,

I thought firmware 1.4 is the current version....?!?! Right after I bought the 5k from CC, I hooked up the ethernet and downloaded ASAP version 1.4. Does this version now support now DTS MA 7.1? How do I confirm this or see this on the player's menu/screen or, one just assumes it's outputting 7.1 discrete channels of audio..... As far as I know, there isn not a test disc out there that does DTS MA HD 7.1 yet.... My old receiver is able to do a Test tone and all 7.1 discrete channels are up and running fine....but unfortunetley, test tones come from the receiver and has nothing to do with the BD player....

Hey guys, besides Pan's Labyrinth's...there are other BD movies out there with DTS MA HD 7.1 audio tracks for u to enjooy such as the SAW movies, the new Rambo Movie (amazing sound and gritty action!) and the just released Hell Boy 2 (The Golden Army).....enjoy!!!!
PS3 also has a dragon game called LAIR with the only known 7.1 discrete audio track.

1.4 IS the latest firmware and there have been no updates as far as audio capabilities go since 1.3. If you take a look at the 1.3 thread youll see the audio decoding available.

Any titles in particular? I have twenty or so titles, and while I haven't gone through each and every one of them after updating to 1.4. I had recently been viewing the HD DVD version of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (at the request of my daughter). The title played just fine, however I was unable to set it to repeat a chapter (my daughter loves the "Chewing Chewing" song after Violet B turns into a giant blueberry). I have yet to see if the repeat chapter works on any other HD DVD, or SD or Blu-ray for that matter.

They should have at least have included the update for the bonus view popup since it one of the things that people wanted to have the most.

I talked to a representative earlier this week and he said an update for the bonus view as well as a few other things should be coming within the next couple of weeks.

?? Not sure what you mean here as the player works with 1.1 material......THe only caveat is that you will always see the Bonus View icon, unless you turn off screen messages. Remember Samsung thought this was a feature before, it is up to the consumer to educate them otherwise....

Well if "enough" people speak up on an issue it will be fixed (we have seen evidence of that). Its a matter of getting enough voices to be heard.

You can add all BD-P1500, BD-P2500 and BD-P2550 users to those who dislike Sammy's handling of Bonus View Icon issue. We are not alone and falling to deaf ear is probably the only explaination.

Hi. When I loaded the disc, I went and checked something on my PC, came back and there was a screen I haven't seen before ever, it was kind of the fbi warning you see always except it was written: it may not be possible to play this disc unless you update your firmware, etc... it looked like a copy of the little notice we get in each BD's. At bottom there was a 'continue', I hit enter then I end up on the movie menu page, but no menu on left and only 'Die another day' on upper right. Had to power off then power on and all was okay afterwards. Furthermore, around the 1h30m mark, the screen turned all snow (same as when you load a standard DVD). Had again to power off then on and go back to that exact spot and it played perfect until the end. Tried a few of the special features, no problem at all. This is with fw 1.4. Ah I also had a few hiccups on the audio, nothing major though. With 1.4, I watched this one and 'For yr eyes only' also. This last one played flawlessly. Ah to finish, I watched 1st part of 'Band of brothers' BD right before loading 'Die another day'.

I sure hope they fix it since i was planning on buying either a 1500 or a 2500 and im seriously thinking of buying the LG instead if this is not fixed.

All you have to do is turn off on screen messages. It's not a big deal.
