I notice that your article is missing any info on the BD profile issue. Can you add any info on this?

With only 256meg of memory, it doesn't meet the min spec for 2.0.
Shame they didn't include a usb or SD slot as a way of getting around that.

I really wish he had tested and commented on both BD and HD DVD for 24p output, on a capable display.

Still looking for a movie theatre that shows movies the way they're SUPPOSED to be viewed...

24p input isn't as wide spread yet so I'm not surprised it wasn't tested.
Besides, it looks like this was a very brief hands on review.

Wow, it does sound nice and if all these features and performance pan out, this will be a winner for Samsung.

Looks really nice

Is there any possibility to display the currently used video- and/or audio-codec & bitrates, as the Toshibas (codecs) and Sony's PS3 (codecs+bitrates) offer? Would be a nice feature, I really miss this on the BD-P1000 ...

I'm already on board to buy as soon as this thing is released. I just wish they'd hurry up and get it to market.

It's great that it has 7.1 analog outs. It'll interesting to see if it will onboard decode DTS-HD MA, and if it outputs 8 channel PCM (for decoded TrueHD or DTS-HD MA) over HDMI. That would be a nice feature.

BACK TO BLU!

I have just confirmed 1080p/24 fps output and updated the review .

www.hdguru.com

The limitation of 256 MB internally seems to be as far as any dedicated BD players does to date. I don't believe any of the other dedicated players have more (as well as an Ethernet port).

The PS3 has a total of 512 MB memory, though I do not know how much is dedicated to BD downloads functions.

Gary,

What about bass management? Specifically, is there a variable crossover, or is it fixed at 100Hz like the 1200? Are there speaker distance settings for delay?

Peace... Vader

Gary,

What kind of quality are the DACs? Did you get a chance to try out the analog audio?

is the entire unit finished with glossy paint like the bd-p1000 or just the front face place?

It also has a hard drive which can be used for persistent storage. Most models also have the memory card slots as well.

I really think next year's Sammy will be a great final player. Hopefully we get loads of copycats so the price falls significantly as well. For now I'll still keep the PS3 for BD and wait for a better HD DVD player. By next year we should know if the PS3 will decode DTS-MA so I can decide if I should buy a new HD DVD only player or a DF player.

Have you had any chance to test (or at least view) the speaker management setup? Is it the old one we know from Samsung (which renders the analog outs pretty much useless)? Or is it a speaker management you can work with?

Format neutral! (prefering HD DVD which is build on quality while blu-ray is build on marketing)

Its glossy on the front, top and sides like a Drakes " Ring Ding" (for those of you in Drakes Cakes territory.

From a Samsung spokeperson "After the firmware upgrade, the player will support both HDMI and analog output for not only Dolby TrueHD, but also DD+, dts-HD HR and MA."

The choices for speaker management are off/small/large and there appears to be options for the .1 subwoofer, but they were glitched on the pre-production sample.

I hope the beast will be out soon !

I hope that the 7.1 analog is good quality, in that case I will not aim for a Denon3800 too !

Nothing on the market does that and it would not be useful anyway. The material on SD DVD is already converted from 24fps to 60fps on the disc. The ability to play 1080p/24 is merely to allow a source that is in 24fps to remain that way--as is the case for some hi-def discs and will be the case more often. It is NOT meant to take a hi-def source that is at 60fps and convert it to 24fps after the fact.

People were talking that the XA2 will convert to 24. Is this a benefit or true?

BD Java 2.0...what does this do in reality?? I find it annoying that I would have to connect the player to a modem (why not have a wireless modem built in) too much clutter being that my modem is in another room.

What will be the benefit of having the player hooked up to the internet? what will it allow me to do? download minor things that I have no time for?

I thought it meant the XA2 would get a firmware update to do 1080p/24, not upconvert SD DVD to that format. I don't know if it's even possible to do so.

I would think if the Samsung makes you confirm 1080/24p output before it changes over that it would output anything you put in it at that format?

I am sure Gary can shed some light on this...
