Here it is in Korea. A bit more expensive here:

http://www.icoda.co.kr/i_product/pro...901&is_enuri=1

Around $430 US.

I can barely read that it comes with PowerDVD.

for $400 bux you can start to buy HD media burners.

LG GGC-H20N (note the last letter) will be the model that burns BOTH HD DVD+Blu-Ray... so for $400 that's what you can buy.

think about it: $300 vs. $400 is reader vs. burner of both HD media.

i'd rather wait for that GGC-H20N so i can ALSO burn!!! either 30GB or 50GB is a LOT of nice data for backing up!!!!! =)

Actually if I'm reading the specs right the H20N reads both HDDVD and Blu-ray but only burns Blue-ray. Personally I don't see any need for burning both anyway but I'm sure that will happen eventually.
Unfortunately for right now the only standalone that does both that is available now (LG) costs over $1000. You can always buy two separate standalones but then you'll still spend more than the $300 the H20L costs right now. The biggest draw back I see at the moment is that there is now way to output DTS-MA or DolbyTrueHD audio from your sound card since powerdvdultra downrez's all the audio to 48/16.

meh i don't mind that. uncompressed still sounds beefier than DD+ anyways. most movies do not take FULL advantage of the dynamic range anyways. there's simply not enough source of movies out there to fully exploit the technology. plus, one day these issues will be resolved by either hackers or legitimate patches.

PS burning either HD DVD or Blu-Ray is fine by me. it's still a ton more space than DVD9 =P

No, GGC-H20N is the same as GGC-H20L but without support for LightScribe labeling. They can burn CD/DVD but not the HD formats.

The drives with support for burning Blu-ray (but not HD DVD) are GGW-H20N and GGW-H20L (the latter with support for LightScribe).
See here for details.

Mine came with an OEM CD of PowerDVD, so I would think you will get the same. It is not a trial version.

The Korea price over $400 is not the same as you would probably pay in the USA. Everything hi-def here is overpriced.

We still pay over $1,000 for last year's Samsung 1000 model Blu-ray player!

it is a trial. If you had the trial of powerdvd installed at any time say in the past 6 months then the "OEM" on the cd asks for a cd key.

hi jsl,

i had gone back and reviewed it, yesh you are correct. ggw's are the ones... but they are still $400 (once they arrive), which is around $100-130 more than the reader only. i'd still spend it =P. besides BDR has more disc space on the dual laye anyways.

The OEM copy of Power DVD Ultra that comes with the GGC-H20L is NOT a trial version.

You need to uninstall the trial version if you installed it. You can usually then clean out your registry of all things PowerDVD and your Application Data directories to get rid of all references to the trial version and install the OEM version. If that doesn't work contact Cyberlink and they should be able to help you resolve.

I have never had PowerDVD before. It did not ask for a key. Are you saying it will expire soon? On the face of the CD that came with the drive it says Bundle Only. Not for resale. I am still going to maintain that it is not a trial version. I get no warnings that it is going to expire. My understanding it that it is slightly crippled. If you want 7 channel analog then you have to buy the full version. Not saying I am 100% sure but I have not seen anything on screen warning me that it is about it expiring.

that's why i'm still reluctant to buy, especially when there is such limited stock and such high demand. plus my theater's not done yet.

Stupid Best Buy. I just got an email that it is backordered and not expected in for 2 weeks.

So now I even missed the availabilty at NewEgg.

Just one more reason not to buy from WorstBuy. I continue to have bad experiences with them.
