The new LG BH200 is already being sold at my local Best Buy. So those who are worrying about a delay, need not worry anymore. The cost was $999.99. Still too expensive if you ask me.

Meanwhile, I still have yet to see any of the bluray players that were announced at IFA and CEDIA to be available.

Blurays: 115
HD-DVD: 12- YES I will be keeping them so I can own a piece of history

Well, I just called my local BB(Albany, NY) and they do not have any in. The rep did say something interesting though. He said the LG isn't due in until after the Samsung UP-5000, which comes in next week. His computer said they have 5 UP-5000's due in on 10/22. He said the LG comes out in 2 weeks(10/29 or 30).

I live in College Station, TX. If these units are available in limited quantities, I find it shocking that they would pick our location as a place to sell them.

Stupid question but what's the difference between the 100 & 200. I see the 100 on their website for $999.

You got that right. As someone once said, just because they have a polo shirt with a logo doesn't mean they know S*** about audio or video.

In fact, I have NEVER talked to an electronics big box employee who knew more than I did about the products they sell - and I am far from as expert as many on this forum.

And these people are out there giving advice to the public. It is truly scary. I suppose that is how they make money - talent and training cost money and with the public largely ignorant of A/V they can get away with employing unqualified individuals at low salaries.

The 100 is a neutered HD-DVD player and bluray player. cant handle interactive specs for either format.

The LG BH200 is a full 1.1 spec bluray player and can handle all the interactive features on HD-DVD. Seems like a very tempting player if you ask me.

I'm getting either this or the Sammy (I haven't decided). I'm waiting to hear some reviews before I bite (might just snag one in time for Christmas)...

Best Buy has them now, just saw my first one today, although the demo disc they where using was very bad... $1000 price tag... And it states it will decode
DTS HD MA.... It is also 1.1 compliant which the Blu-side was looking for. now for $600-$700 bucks this would be nice..

I hope I am wrong but I doubt that we will see much reduction anytime soon. There are a number of reasons. First, they gotta pay two licensing fees, not one. Second, one other competitor is not much. Third, you can already get two separate players for quite a bit less and that has not reduced the price. Fourth, they know that the market is still early adopters for HD Discs and that to the 3rd power for combos. They know early adopters expect to pay more.

What the hell, I paid 4x that for my processor anyway!

None avaliable in the Portland, or. area BBs. Circuit City said they will be $799 when they get them though? I wonder if he meant that for the BH100? I was specific about the BH200 and told him the difference between the BH100 & BH200.

Oh, and one of the BBs said to come in and ask for him when they come in and he would make it worth my while so they do have some wiggle room.

Why wouldn't it encode TrueHD? Even the A2 does that.

Yeah but it's only required to decode 2 channel True HD audio to meet with the HD-DVD spec.

I meant to say no multichannel TrueHD, no dice.

If this can be resolved via a firmware update, I'm in since the Samsung BD-UP5000 looks like it could be delayed indefinitely.
