I will rent these two titles and test them next week and report back, I need to throughly test the machine with both formats. Do you know if these titles will definitely supply 24fps? as I need to confirm my 24fps capability also. Any suggestions on how I should be testing the menus and what to report. I have never used these capabilities in the past.

24p is not really a disc-to-disc feature. Movies are shot 24p so anything other than TV episodes will be fine.

If you mean the BH200 manual? Yes. I just wanted an original copy.

Thanks though.

Update: Got my manual in the mail. Same as described, it's printed, stapled copy of the BH100 manual. Still no firmware.

I watched "The Lives of Others" on BR tonight and in dark scenes there were vertical bands of noise going across the screen. All "enhancement" options in this player are off BTW.

It could be the display, my receiver, the disc itself or a number of other things. I have not tried to track it down. So far this is the only time I have seen it. I will keep my eyes open though.

Update:

Watched "Freedom Writers" on HD-DVD Last night. Looked great, no real glitches. Would not handshake 24fps with my 6010 so watched it at 60fps. Did not see any enhanced menus. HyPyke, is this what you mean by enhanced menus being off? I don't know what to look for since I have never owned BD or HD-DVD before.

Watched two more Sopranos episodes on DVD at 480p, still get video hesitations about every 3-5 minuets. I have tried all the resolutions, its definitely there and shows up within 5 minuets of watching SD. LG says it is not a known issue and it may be in my unit. Same with 24fps, LG says the tv needs to be compatable before it will send it. I will continue working these issues with LG and Pioneer and keep you updated.

No, what I meant by "enhancement" was the options under video in the menu like "Mosquito noise" and "white area noise" and stuff like that. Picture enhancements.

The interactivity depends on the disc.

The 24p thing I don't believe. I think they have not enabled it. I know that it has to have the EDID data to recognize the tv but I would think my set at least has been out long enough. They really need a "force" option.

I don't use my player for SD dvds so I can't confirm that.

UPDATE: Hit my first BIG snag. I found a copy of Clerks 2 HD-DVD for around 14 bucks over the weekend. It will not work on this player.

I get to the main menu of the film, but the overlays, that is the actual menu itself never loads. The background video is there and loops as expected. I tried hitting enter and mousing around, I tried hitting the title button, I tried everything. I could not find a workaround. There is no way to get this movie to play currently.

Still working with LG on SD video shuddering and 24fps. Thanks elube for the SD report, looks like it may be my unit, let me know if you do any more SD.

Concerned I may have to exchange mine, I went by BB to see what my options would be since there is no stock. BB was kind enough to do a paper exchange which extended my option to return or exchange mine until January 25. Yes the holidays give it the extra extension. Now I have time to work with LG or exchange it at a later date.

As for 24fps I am concerned since it has been taken out of all the spec sheets. It was there a week ago. Hope to here from LG tomorrow.

I cancelled my pre-order for the BH200 after noticing that ALL 7.1 audio options were removed, Dolby True-HD was listed as 2 channel only, and no 24p video support is mentioned any longer either.

They also removed the included HDMI cable and removed the Marker (Set/Search) and Repeat (Title, Chapter, A-B) from the HD DVD supported playback features.

Thanks echudoba for the info on the paper exchange. I may need to do that also if I have any more problems and or they pull the plug on the sound and 24fps.
I watched cough..Hostel2..cough on Blu-Ray last night and no problems.

I see for 7.1 it only lists "Linear PCM up to 7.1 Ch". What does that mean? On F4SS I can only get stream to show DTS on my receiver when DTS-HD is selected on the disk and the player is set to pass through. I get DTS+NEO:6 if I ask for standard.

For $999 it sounds like the Samsung is far and away a better choice feature-wise.

If LG wants to be competitive they need to drop the price of this player $200 in my opinon.

This is the brand new 200 model right? I have seen a few BH100s on sale, but never a BH 200.

Yes, a few of us were able to get BB to sell us their "display only do not sell" models. I suspect though that they are preproduction models designed to create excitement. Mine works fine with Blu-Rays and most SD disks. Some HD DVD I've had no problems with but a few newer titles, Transformers and Chuck and Larry, have stuttered occasionally and each one froze once.
The thing I am dissaponted with is that the best PCM or Pass-through sound I have gotten is standard DTS. In addition there is no way to verify or set 24 FPS.

No such luck for me! They wouldn't honor an extended exchange period. I was told that I could bring it back for a refund up to the 24th but that was it. If there is no word or LG can't lengthin the exchange period or the problems are not going to be addressed in the production models, I may just exchange for 2 players and hope the Sammy is out before Christmas and exchange those 2 back for it?

Have you heard back from LG yet?

I called LG again and they still haven't conferenced with the engineers yet. Hope confirm 24p and learn more about my SD video glitches soon. I know for a fact the unit I have is not sending 24p.

Thanks. When you talk to them you might ask them about the lack of anything better than standard DTS sound at best.
If there is someone specific you are working with I could call also unless you feel it might piss them off.

Man, I think I will wait for the Sammy (which probably guarantees me nothing but a different set of problems ). Even then, I am glad I have an HTPC with dual drive to go to if that does not work with a disc. It looks like at this point no one player (and by that I mean ANY HD player - including HTPC, HD-DVD, and Blu-ray - not just combos) can be sure to play a given disc. A sad state of affairs and pretty pathetic if they expect folks to adopt any HD disc format. It is bad enough that they are expensive, worse that none of them can be depended upon. If the well-informed guys and gals on this forum are having trouble, can you imagine the frustration of an HD Disc newbie?!

Gonna be a lot of returned HD-DVD, Blu-ray, and (if they are released), combo players after Christmas, as well as some of the problematic discs! Serves 'em right if they can't get this stuff to work as advertised.

For every complex problem there is an answer
that is clear, simple, and wrong.

It has been stated over and over again that the BH200 is out now. My local BB confirmed this 2 days ago. They are just "severely" backordered. The BH200's included in the Bose endcaps are not pre-production units. They are the finalized machine.

If it's not worth waiting until the last minute to do, then it's not worth doing.

That's news to the BB I was at. If they've never had one other than the Bose display "backordered" and "not out yet" seem to go hand and hand. Some of the confusion stems from them stating that the computer shows they have them avaliable but when you try to buy them they are or are for the Bose display. I argued this very point with a BB manager the other day and when they called the other store for the "avaliable" unit in the computer at another store I was right and it was the Bose unit. The reason why I think they are preproduction models is on the back of mine there is a yellow sticker over the standard serial # sticker and it says License #_ _ _ _ _ _ .

I hope you are right though in that they will be avaliable soon so I can swap mine out.

I just noticed that Broadcom issued a press release (link) on Wednesday 11/7/07 saying that the LG BH200 uses Broadcom's BCM7440 SoC (system-on-a-chip). This is the same SoC as Samsung's BD-UP5000 dual format player.

To tell ya truth i still like the BH 100 even tho it deosnt have full HD-DVD support for exrta features who cares! I want to watch a movie not mess around with extra feature stuff! and not having the analog outputs is a deal breaker for the BH 200. why they deleted that i'll never know. No problems playing discs not that the new firmware is out . I might go buy a few more ;-)
