Guys,

Sorry to post over here, but I need a bit of investigation of video performance of the BH200 in comparison to the BD-UP5000. Not sure if you know this, but they are the same Broadcom reference design based on the BCM7440, so we are trying to lock down where the issues are (Broadcom related, or Samsung related). If you used to have this, but it went away with a firmware update, that is good info to know as well.

We are seeing a low level motion in the video over HDMI and component, with all content, including the Samsung logo screen. I find that it is best reproduced using the Digital Video Essentials Pixel Clock and Phase test screen, and shows up even when paused.

This post provides a link to more info and a video which shows the difference between the BD-UP5000 and the XBox360 Elite.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...3#post12511703

To avoid thead clutter, go ahead an PM me back or post over in the Samsung thread with any test results.

Thanks very much in advance.

Anybody else think this thread should be stickied at the top as the official BH200 owners thread?

Not sure how to get that done, but yeah. Feel free to nominate it to whomever.

Done. Hopefully the mods will sticky it.

Any updates on the BH200? Have you run into any more problems? I can pick this player up for $799 and I'm still thinking about buying it or the Samsung.

Not from me. Not so far. I have a bunch of discs now in both formats and only the problems related here have cropped up. If any do I will continue to post.

I have a 6010 Pioneer and see this motion in the gray fields weather it be the phase test of DVE or the grey side bars gererated by the pioneer in 4:3 aspect mode. The BH200 startup screen has no grey fields and looks great. This is at 4 to 8 inch viewing distance.

When I back off to 3 foot plus viewing distance, everything looks ok to my untrained eye. I don't believe this to be an issue.

How does Ratatouille play on the BH200? It seems to show the camera angle icon on the new BD-UP5000 just like it does on the BH100.

Just joined the ranks of owner. I went to BB to check out the Samsung BD-UP5000. They had one but the guy in front of me purchased the only one. I was a little hesitant seeing all of the picture quality question about the Samsung. While waiting I saw 3 of the LG units and decided to give it a try. I must say I am pleased so far. The speed of this unit is great. It loads discs almost as fast as my PS3. I tried all of the discs that have super long load times on my Sony BDP-1. I tried Ratatouille, Decent, Spiderman 2, Pirates 2 & 3. All loaded in under 30 seconds. The BDP-1 can take minutes. I also tried a bunch of HD-DVDs all loaded quickly and without issue. I have not tried any SD discs yet to see if the picture is a poor as reported. I will keep my fingers crossed.

I have to admit that with the additional Flash mem and seemingly more reliable performance than the Samsung, the LG looks the better option at the moment. IMHO the Samsung was overhyped.

I ordered the bh200 on Monday from BB and paid for "expedited" service. It came yesterday. The installed version is the 1119 firmware. I called LG to go over te audio situation and the person was so confused herself she said she would have to call me today after speaking with her superior. An interesting thing in the manual. Hypyke earlier mentioned a clause concerning Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Digital Plus and its output depending on whether it's 1.2 or 1.3. In my manual on page 8 it ONLY says Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital plus and DTS-HD cabability is limited to 5.1 channels if you use Digital Audio or HDMI connection for the audio output of the unit. No mention of 7.1 channels.

Do you guys have any problems playing movies from Netflix? Any stuttering issues or cut out audio on either format?

I am pretty sure the audio issue will be fixed am more worried on the playback performance and quality.

Thx

All I do is Netflix, do not own any HD. BD flawless and a few noisy spots with HD DVD. SD great.

BelB64, be aware of the trailing letter. Mine came with 1119C, the recent upgrade was to 1119F.

Most all I do is Netflix too. Mostly, no problems.
One interesting note: Played Bourne Ultimatum and Dolby TrueHD came through as stereo and Dolby Plus came through as DD? Also, the disc paused by itself 3 times with the Universal screen but played fine when unpausing each time?

I just picked up the BH200 at Best Buy. I've been on the fence between this and the sammy, but I got a good deal so I jumped.

The guy at Best Buy must have been in the Xmas mood. He didn't even know they one of these sitting on the shelf, but he price matched Crutchfields $799 price and then honored my %10 coupon to boot.

Finally tried a BD with the Pioneer PRO-150FD. No 24p.

Wondering if the issue may be at least partly Pioneer's fault by not properly advertising/negotiating the capability. Maybe we need to pursue that direction as well.

Was good to see it play the BD flawlessly, though (except for a moment of doubt when the dog casually whacked the reverse remote button on the couch). And was my first viewing of 1080p material. Totally spoiled now. Will have a hard time parting with money to see anything less.

I still need to retry that SD disk that stuttered.

I have a denon receiver that can decode all the potential outputs of the new Blu ray or hd dvd disc. I only have digital optical output as my projection tv doesn't have an hdmi input. Like everyone else when I pick True HD as an option on any disc my receiver show it as " 2 channel stereo" output. But yesterday I had an interesting thing happen when I was playing the Ratattouille disc. I chose Dolby Digital (Not uncompressed Dolby Digital) My receiver indicated Dolby D plus. Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes, I saw the same thing while playing Spider Man 3 (using a Denon AVR-4306).

I've had my BH200 about 24 hours now, and have been having an issue where the disc (HD DVD or Blu Ray) will Stutter/Drop Out for about a second or so (using HDMI).

It only seems to happen towards the beginning of the disc, 12 minutes in for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

It doesn't happen all the time, but enough for me to question the stability of the player.

I've recently picked up a BH200 for $699 at Future Shop (in Canada) and I also have been having a few problems. When I try to play the Clerks 2 HD DVD, the player doesn't even get to the menu--it just says the disc cannot be played because of parental settings, which are set to "Unlock". Changing the setting to the adult setting doesn't help either. From other posts, it sounds like others have gotten further than I did.

I haven't had stutter/drop-out issues yet, but I did notice the video-audio synch being a bit off on the Rent Blu-ray, and this does not happen when I play it on my PS3. With these issues and the uncertainty over firmware upgrades for passing HD audio and 24 fps, I'm tempted to just take the player back.

I have firmware 1119F for the unit.

I received 2001 A Space Odyssey on BluRay for Christmas. This disc seems to do bad things to the player, lol. Before I could get it to play (I had sound with no picture) it took a bunch of stop/play/menu tries, eventually I got a non-main menu to pop up (the bonus features menu?) and could get the movie started (though not from the main menu, which I never saw)... after taking it out, I had to power-cycle the unit before it would play any other discs of any kind.

Is 1119F still the newest firmware? I can't even find that on LG's support site.

My Clerks 2 will not play but does not have the issues you describe. (See my post in this thread for a description of my issues.) What is your firmware version? Instructions on how to check are in this thread.

Yes 1119F is the newest. Looks like they pulled the firmware from the site. It was up there before. That is just all kinds of awesome actually. Interestingly enough it is still on the Canadian site.

Just for reference: To find the current firmware go to http://us.lgservice.com/index_b2c.jsp and click on "Device Driver" then don't select anything from the dropdowns just click "DVD&VIDEO&SET TOP". When they post one that is where it should be.

Okay, so I wasn't nuts when I couldn't find it...but my player out of the box had 1119f on it...

It looks like aside from the no title menu with 2001 the only other glitch I occasionally run into is when fast-forwarding, sometimes the player "crashes" when I go to stop it...it just freezes (no more playing). I can eject the disk and go to some menus, but it won't play anything without being power cycled after that...I've only tried bluray discs so far, I don't have any HD-DVDs.

I have 1119F as well. I think I had to register my player first to access it on the Canadian site, so that might help for those who are still looking to download it.

It is really unbelieveable that despite the manual CLEARLY stating that Dolby True HD and DTS Master Audio will be outputted at 2 channel stereo or plain old DTS catalogues continue to state otherwise. I just received a new catalogue from Crutchfield and this is how the bh 200(which I have) is described. "It includes decoders for two advanced new surround soundformats-Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby True HD.........The bh 200 can even pass the new "lossless" DTS-Master Audio format to compatable receivers" Unless there is a firmware upgrade coming to allow this, it seems like a case of false advertising. The discription by the way for the Samsung hybrid also states that it can decode these formats when apparently it can't either

My guess is a new firmware will fix it the question is when.
