A firmware update was released for the BD300. Hopefully now LG can focus on fixing the disc that won't play on the BH200, For Your Eyes Only, Point Break and Madagascar

Help!

You should find all you need here. Click the LG link on the page for the latest firmware. When you get to LG's site enter "BH200" in the model number and hit the search button.

Sorry if it's been already answered (I tried reading thru here and Googling), but does anyone know which ROM drive this unit has? And is it easily replaceable?

"I knew you'd say that"...*BLAM!*

I'm really sick and tired of the apparent neglect, on LG's part, for BH200 support.

I once again came across a Blu-ray disk which this machine simply wouldn't play; Madagascar. This is a major, widely distributed title. A little research in the AVS forums indicates that, indeed, there is a known incompatibility with this disk and the BH200. Which is in addition to Your Eyes Only, Point Break and most likely others.

It has been entirely too long since the last firmware update for this unit! Panasonic, Pioneer and Sony have all released firmware updates to address these, inevitable, incompatibility issues, which is the responsible thing to do. Where is LG's commitment to its customers in kind???

Considering the premium price this unit brought, (I paid $600) it is entirely unacceptable for LG to abandon BH200 users, as it apparently has!

Any comments LG?

Sincerely,

There are reports that LG is working on the Madagascar issue but that it's not quite ready. There are also rumours that there will be a major firmware upgrade in the next couple of months.

Also, did you know that LG is sending out $75 rebates to BH200 owners that request them? This is related to the decision not to enable Profile 2.0/BD-Live functionality.

Have you tried forcing your player into 720p? Some people have reported that doing this allows Madagascar to play for them. Not ideal if your tv supports 1080, but potentially a workaround until they get the bug fixed.

The only workaround I tried was to disable 24p on the player. It would not have occurred to me to set the output to 720p.

The disk initialized up until the Java code loads; then it just hangs.

Too late anyhow, it's on its way back to Netflix.

After doing an on line chat with LG support (I was inquiring about a Profile 2.0 update that the AVS forum stated wasn't going to happen), it was confirmed that indeed Profile 2.0 wasn't going to happen on the BH200 and the $75 rebate is happening. But...LG has sent me a firmware rev. disc, dated Dec 08: BH02081205A

I have attempted to upload this file to AVS, but it is not working. I have installed this firmware and I can't tell what it corrected (if anything). It did not turn on Profile 2.0 for sure (LG had told me that wasn't going to happen). There were no files on disc, except the ROM file. No other documentation (ex. explaining update) was included in the envelope.

Damnit I was hoping they would have surprised everyone and thrown us a BD-Live bone because I am not going for that $75 "rebate" insult.

I haven't even been offered a $75 Rebate. Guess I'll just wait for the Class Action Lawsuit.

Call LG and ask for it - very simple. Even a successful class action suit will yield you far less than what you can get today.

As Itsdon wrote, just call LG and ask for it. LG will not offer it to you unless you contact them about Profile 2.0 functionality. And it's faster and easier to just directly ask for the rebate.

Here's a link to GizmoDVD's excellent $75 rebate request "how to":

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...9#post15140519

If the phone lines aren't busy, the process takes less than 5 minutes.

^WHOA, no excuse...that's likely a seamless branching problem that goes all the way back to Zohan (on the BD-UP5000 anyway)...at the very least, I've seen the same problem report for Hancock (another Sony title).

I'm just frustrated. I own Samsung's BD5000 and LG's BH200. I bought them way back when they were both about $700. They've both been a letdown. I've invested some money into my home theater and everything else has been worth the investment. Not my Blu-ray players. $700 is a lot of money for something that is being outperformed by current players that are now less than half.

Have you watched it all the way through? What's your audio setup? Mine's set to primary pass through to an Onkyo 805.

I too have been stung by Korean's finest Samsung and LG. I bought Samsung's BD-P1400 and what a nightmare that unit was (had to junk it a la Office Space). The LG BH200 has been much better for me except for the seamless branching and alternate-angle audio drop-outs which I worry may never get fixed. I mean LG has three new players coming out this year (no counting the HTIB units) plus the recently released BD300, how much time do you think will be dedicated to solving BH200's issues? No looking good!!

No more Korean junk for me. I wanted my next player to have built-in WiFi and unfortunately only two companies announced one, guess which two companies? So I'm changing strategy. I'll rather buy a wireless Ethernet adapter and buy a BD player from a company that has the manpower and is committed to fixes issues when they arise whether the player is new or old. AFAIK that means a player from Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer and from what I hear Oppo (Samsung seems to be providing better support to their players now but I still concern about their player reliability).

To be fair LG was providing good support for the BH100 & BH200 at first but it has been declining since HD-DVD demise.

I understand your frustration, but it's a known fact you are always going to pay more for emerging or relatively new technology. When you start to feel bad, think of all the folks who paid top dollars for a HD DVD player

I played Batman 1989 on the BH200 the other day, playback was flawless and I enjoyed a good movie from my youth.

You're right, but this wasn't a first gen HDDVD/ Blu-ray player. This was LG's second go around and they still couldn't figure it out.
