I think Samsung knows they have a lot to lose if the Bd-UP5000 ships "buggy", as everybody will want to review this thing. How many magazines do you see doing reviews of prototype products?

I'm being optomistic - I think Samsung will deliver a product that we will all be happy we waited for.

Patrick

I think what was said was that they were still owrking out the kinks with 1.1 as they want it as bug free as possible.

Wasn't trying to be funny just honest. Really though I read somewhere that this was the reason that 1.1 was being delayed. They were having some issues with it and rather then send out a "known" faulty unit, they decided to hold of until they could work out the "known kinks" that they had. With the lack of available software though (consumer side) I dont see what the big rush is. I may be wrong, but we arent going to see an actual 1.1 disc until after the 1st of the year anyways, so I would rather a company get the issues worked out BEFORE rather than say "opps, we will have to send out a firmware update". People are getting too worked up about the delay, with the current issues some of the companies have been having on BOTH sides as far as implementing the new features on the discs, I would expect people to be happy that a company has decided to ge the unit as perfect as possible (hopefully this is the case).

So, here we are on the 14th. No postings from anyone employed with Circuit City (unless their truck comes after closing on the 14th), and no spy photos of reserved shelf space at Best Buy.

...I'm starting to think some of the posters have credibility issues.

You just now think this? ....While I never am one to discredit another poster, I take any "eyewitness accounts" or "I was told by xxx" with a grain of salt. Unless its coming from the Company or a "trusted" insider then I am just going to wait it out until someone actually has a verifiable sighting of the unit.

Anybody who believes someone so far down the food chain as a store manager when it comes to a new product delivery schedule will have credibility issues.

Put yourself in the shoes of the key decision makers at S. You know that you can't ship yet so what do you do? go public with the fact that your unit won't be out until Q1? or remain silent and allow the rumor mill to run it's course and give false hope to potential customers who might get impatient during the holiday sales and pick up a different unit instead?

Yet the LG isn't available either in spite of a promised mid October ship date. Nope, all we have available is the first gen LG, to which I don't see anyone flocking to get at this stage.

I look at samsung up5000 someday ago.
Disk loading time is more fast then samsung P1400.
Picture quality is good, profile is 1.1 but DTS master and true hd can not support right now.
Here is picture of up5000 inside

Are we getting company "plants" into these threads. TrueHD has been confirmed multiple times AND with the recent reviews. Profile is 1.1 ready, DTS MA is after the firmware update......

It is available in limited quantities. My BestBuy has 1 in stock. It was suppose to be used as a store demo. Since they only have one, they're not putting it out. My impulsive side almost pulled the trigger on this, but I'll wait for the 5000. Plus they wouldn't sell it lower than the retail list price.

With all the issues with HDMI 1.3 and possible lip sync when using pass-through video, I'd rather wait see if internal analog decoding works better. I need 7.1 analog for my Arcam AVR-350 being used a a Pre-Pro. Current receivers and pre-pro are still relatively immature products. Was looking at the Onkyo Pro PR-SC885P to mate with the Sammy, but who knows at this point.

The Samsung 5000 can be re-tasked to other rooms as better units come out.
The potential versatility of this unit is very appealing as compared to the LG. Hope the firmware patched unit performs well. It's just another waiting game for early adoptors.

Going back to lurker mode...

Yea, I was aware of the display units...but this just doesn't sound like an actual release to me, more of a silent footnote to the public.

Agree with most of your other points but since the 2 formats have been around for over a year now, I feel that we are exiting the early adopter phase (though not the price when it comes to these DF players).

I just checked with two B&M stores including a BB. None showing in any warehouse or store, and no date of availability showing in the computer systems.

And the wait continues....

Madison WI eh? If only one unit comes in, there will be a race between the two of us as to who gets there first.

Interesting!

Check THIS out!

found that CNET's review page for the BD-UP5000 had a link to buy from "Best Buy Business".

...still none in stock, but it is a division of Best Buy, and the product is listed at $799. I wonder how long before it begins to appear on Best Buy's consumer web site!

It appears to be a step in the right direction!

Yeah, called that vendor (HD-something-or-other). They (of course) have no stock. No firm ETA. The guy told me that they are expecting shipment in first two weeks of December.

haha, I just got off the phone...it's a site glitch. There's a "preorder" link AND a note that they're "in stock." He told me late December so apparently the preorders are selling like hot cakes.

I was in BB last night and they had a spot for the 5000 and the new LG with tags and everything.
The rep there said, it was supposed to be in a couple weeks ago but never showed up. They havent been told anything about when it should arrive.
Basically nothing worth hearing...

Why does it only say "e-mail when this item becomes available"? Everybody here is talking about putting pre-orders in, but they're not even accepting any. It doesn't even say how much the thing costs.

And why is it not possible to *search* Amazon's website for that product? The only way I can find it is by clicking on that link you just posted. Why does that link lead to the product, but a search won't find it?

This is because there is no set date for this unit to be released yet. There are still places from which you can pre-order this unit, just have to search through the threads here. People were talking about putting pre-orders in, but that was before it got taken down after the last official announcement from Samsung that the unit owuldnt be available until late Dec-early Jan. Until Amazon has a firm date I dont thikn you are going to see this unit available again from them.

I addressed the second question in the other thread

The 5000 was up on the main BB site several weeks ago for about a day, then it got pulled. There was a screenshot of the BB page showing the 5000 in another thread. A few people got in pre-orders but are still waiting for delivery along with those that pre-ordered from elsewhere.

I was one of the people that got a pre-order in when Best Buy listed it on their site. Since I've ordered, I've gotten a number of backordered e-mails from them. I finally canceled my order yesterday.
