I am actually "happy" about the delay with the 5000. It can only mean they want all the bugs out before releasing it. With the problems happening with the 1400, they can't afford to let that happen again. I have 2 of these ordered and will just see what develops... I've got other BR players to hold me over...

Not me, so it makes this delay particularly painful (PS3, not interested), especially when Lost Season 3 hits.

Heck, you can always rent a player from costco like so many others on here do...

Exactly the reason why this policy is on its way out. If you can't afford it, don't buy one.

Maybe LG opened the seacocks.

What the heck, I have a dual format HTPC anyway. It works most of the time....

that is clear, simple, and wrong.

I generally agree - better to delay slightly and 'guarantee' it will work as expected!

Doesn't exactly fill one with great confidence though, does it? We are now into 3rd generation players and still have one incomplete format and multiple playback problems. Enthusiasts might live with them, but mass consumers will not: can you spell RETURN!

I own both formats and while I find both to be essentially identical in terms of PQ and AQ, BD has far more playback glitches than HDDVD (althought I have not done the 1080p24 update to my HDDVD player with apparently causes problems).

Certainty and conviction are a sure sign you don't know what you're talking about! The world is not black and white, rather shades of grey!

I generally agree with needing to have a good solid product before releasing. But i cant help but feel that LG will most likely have a solid lead over Samsung from this player not being available in time for the holidays.

I did read a review from my Sound and Vision magazine, they obtained an early prototype of the unit but it did not contain all of the newer updates their 1400 or 1200 now have for newer BD moves. It had a few glitches but other than that they said it performed quite well. Startup from power off was about 35 seconds but once it did, they claimed the load time was almost instantaneous on both formats. I don't think I have seen the article posted on their website yet or not but if you do find it or get a chance to glance at the December issue it is quite an interesting read.

EDIT: Well I did end up finding the article to the review...

Thanks for that url for the Sound & Vision review! Can't wait to get my hands on this thing. Sounds extremely promising.
