Even before Net Neutrality was enacted, I didn't notice a lot of price hikes. I think there are both valid arguments for and against it. The more fiber is laid by the likes of Google, the less likely it is for the old guard to get away with anti-trust violations. I'm not going to fret over it just yet.

Google has recently stated backing away and finishing up their current experiment. They are now partnering with others for what I understand mostly Wi-Fi solutions. They have fond, like many others, that building and supporting an extensive fiber infrastructure is expensive. I'm in that business. So don't count on Google to fix the issue for us. With mass consolidation happening now in the telecommunications market expect prices to rise and quickly. Bandwidth will expand quite a bit and hopefully caps will be lifted or eliminated (might require an extra fee like with mobile data and several cable and telecommunications companies) but the average price paid per. month by the average consumer is expected to go up especially if you happen to cut the cable cord due to HD and 4k and beyond viewing.

So they finally learned what Verizon did? There goes the last bit of respect I once had for Google. That's too bad...resources really are finite after all. I'm locked in my current price for at least another year. Trump seems opposed to the NBC/Time Warner merger. I can only (most likely vainly) hope that concern extends to monopoly breakups.

Thanks Puck. The boss and boss to be of someone watched Moana on Sunday. Oh wait that was on the LG BH200...whoops. I will pop it into the 5k now that it is open but I suspect and expect no issues there. With the DVD, maybe.....

Good to know I would expect that. However if you happen to have The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part 2 and your disc has anomalies on the edge and a dent in the center it won't play. I first ran into this on the LG BH200 when the boss decided she wanted to watch it and I had just opened the package to redeem the digital copy. I didn't notice when I first opened it but it had been damaged. No damage to the outside of the case and it was factory sealed. Been over a year since I purchased it off of fleeBay so no way to return and I haven't bothered yet to call Lionsgate about it. I hear they are hard to deal with on issues like this. Anyhow I purchased a BD disc only and had forgot about Lionsgate hobbling rentals of Atmos and bonus features. So I have ordered the 3-disc Target deluxe from a GoodWill hoping that will at least have a BD that is fully featured and functional. I'm doubtful since it only cost me less than $4 (after Amazon Chase Prime card points and shipping re-imbursement from free shipping.com.

A little bit of an older title, but Guardians of the Galaxy works. Great flick that looks spectacular. It was a little dim in the first scene in the cave where he jumps a crevice and below there are some wiggly monster things, but after that I didn't notice anything too dark.

Hi there. I forgot to post that both The Edge of Seventeen (both rental and retail versions) and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them load up and play fine with no issues.

On a side note my robot that checks for firmware updated got an error on the page back on the 8th. Samsung is showing page not found when you try to get to the support page and firmware for this player. Not the first time this has happened. I reported it to Sammy today and am working with them to get the page back. I don't think it is a case of them pulling the page since you can select the player in the support section. The page is just missing. Looking at their code it appears that they reorganized the pages and forgot to add it or there is just a bug.

In case anyone cares Sammy has restored the 5k support pages so no page not found error anymore and my robot is working again. Not that it will ever again detect a new firmware but a boy can dream....

I'm hoping for 4K, 3D, HDR, and Atmos support in the next FW update. Oh, and HDMI 2.0 while they're at it. And, this might be a longshot, but playing Playstation games would be cool.

Ha. At this point I would be happy if they just fixed the recent Fox red screen of death issues. I haven't tried any recent Fox titles since the last few tanked. Sammy has said they won't fix and update. I reported it to Fox also so maybe they can work around. If and when there is a decent Fox movie out that I just have to watch on BD I will give it another whirl. If the Sammy does not work I can always use the Yammy. Fortunately there hasn't been anything I can't wait for it to come out on premium cable, or one o the many streaming services.

I hear you. It would be nice if they kept up the the recent titles, but I'm not really surprised they don't.

My machine is still an excellent up-converter and when the discs play, it's picture is second to none.

Rented The Accountant last night. Excellent film, loaded and played without issue. DTS-HD 7.1 soundtrack had great gunshot effects (more like anti-aircraft gun/rounds if you have seen the film). It was a Warner rental without bonus features.

Nocturnal Animals loads and plays fine. If you watch the film you will beed a very large screen to view the opening credits sequence. Those of you that have seen the film will understand. Apologies to any readers that may be Rubenesque. If I recall this is a Universal/Focus Features so no problems were expected.

Assassin's Creed will not play. Error code: 0x000000ff

Played just fine in my Xbox One. I enjoyed this movie. I think it was heavily panned on release, but since I had played almost all of the video games, I knew a lot more of the backstory.

Ya, don't expect any Fox movie released after X-men Apocalypse to play at all. Sounds like it's going right to the error code and rejecting rather than providing the red screen of death. I have been tempted to rent one or two recent releases to see if they still have problems but there really isn't anything Fox that I want to pay money to rent let alone buy recently. Besides they all end up on premium or one of the streaming services not long after release. I looked the other day and there was one or two coming up that I might have to rent/buy but I can't recall what they were.

It was Logan and A Cure for Wellness. I don't have a big desire to own Logan and have seen the film. The other however is a must rent for me so I guess it will be viewed on the Yammy.

On a side note, the following films load and play fine (all universal); The Space Between Us, Get Out and A Monster Calls. Liked Monster Calls enough to purchase and besides the copy we rented was hammered and had a bunch of issues. I also have yet to view the latest Jack Reacher which is a Paramount so that's going to be interesting to see if it plays.

And why didn't someone remind me that Ghost World released on Criterion last week. Hopefully Costco has that one next time I check.

I keep forgetting to mention that ever since the upgrade to 1.7 my main player will generally spit out that same error code and disc on the first disc loaded after power up. After that everything is fine. Re-loading the disc will generally work. I am wondering if Assassin's Creed would have the same issue. I am betting if you had tried again you would have gotten the Fox searchlight intro followed by the red screen of death saying that your player needs an update?

Update on the following movies:
-Jack Reacher: Never Go Back; loads and plays fine except you can't use play you have to select chapter one like most Paramount discs these days. BTW - better move that the reviews would suggest.
-My Life as a Zucchini; loads and plays without issue
-Doctor Who: The Return of Doctor Mysterio; Loads and plays without issue.
-Morgan; Loads but will not play, red screen of death. Had to play in Yammy and I expected that, though I was hopeful that was not the case
-The Girl on the Train; Loads and plays fine, though in my main player I had to load it three times. First two resulted in the Error code: 0x000000ff disc can't be played. First time I have had this issue except that I had to try My Life as a Zucchini several times since I had the disc upside down. Possibly my loader is about to go out or I messed it up trying to play a disc upside down
-Nerve; Loads and plays without issue. Disc has lots of authoring and features and many things load a tad slow. Probably the most interesting BD authoring that I have ran into. This is the first DTS X title I have ran into (that I know of). Audio seemed fine but there is one point near the end of the movie where the sound gets really loud all of a sudden then a bit later goes back down. I suspect this might be something with the new codec and tripping up this older player?

BTW - Costco is carrying Ghost World. Picked that up along with Rumble Fish. Hopeful that Lost in America will also be there when it releases later this Summer.

Ya this player is picky about marginal movies Despite it getting a 3.5 star rating by High Def. Digest their recommendation was/is a rent only.

BTW - It's a Paramount so all you needed to do is select chapter one from the menu rather than play. That is IF you were able to get to the disc menu. If not there could be newer more nasty problems with Paramount titles.

It will be some time before I play any discs in mine. Comcast keeps sending me free On-Demand movie coupons and in the past I haven't used them much. Seems Red Box is rarely anymore giving out good codes and if I go to the neighborhood video store their prices are more then I am willing to pay to check out movies I haven't seen or are contemplating purchasing. Course I do have the large wall of movies, many that I have never viewed or even opened for that matter. Maybe I will venture into some of them. I have been thinking of watching Shooter on HD-DVD before I start watching the series.

A couple weeks ago I did watch Fandango on DVD. It came up in conversation at a recent conference I was at and it is one of my favorite movies. I have a direct 100% rip of it but broke down and finally purchased the DVD since I doubt that they will ever release it on any HD format other than streaming. I considered purchasing the HD stream version on Amazon, VUDU or some of the other platforms but I was able to buy the DVD for much less. The 5k does such a great job with up-scaling that I doubt that the HD stream would look much better than it. Maybe if I see it on sale one of these days or have a coupon I will grab it to compare.

I also need to view Blade Runner before the new one comes out. I have that on HD-DVD also in the box set and also have a sealed suitcase version. I recently sold my sealed BD version of the set for $100 and had only paid $20 for it back when BDs were just coming out. I decided I was just fine with the HD and preferred to collect it. I can always get the final cut version on BD if I need to.

I think it did make it to the menu but it kicked it out after I selected play movie. It's easier to flip on the XBox than mess around with the Sammy when that happens so I didn't try any of the Mr. Kludge bag of tricks.

Just came into one of these along with a few HD-DVD movies from someone who was going to junk it. Works fine although I haven't tried any Blu-Rays in it since I have the 4K Sony for that. Had a Toshiba HD-A30 back in the day which broke, and all my HD-DVDs were accidentally given away in a move.

Anyway, glad I have this player since I rebought the HD-DVD version of The Big Lebowski, which looks so much better than the Blu-Ray that the machine is worth keeping in my setup solely for that!

Guardians of the Galaxy II started up fine, but it started freezing and I couldn't get it to play after about 10 minutes of so. I'm glad I have the Xbox as my back up player.
