Yeti - Things To Come

24/96

Quote:

"Texans Yeti coalesced in 1998 out of two existing bands, adding keyboard player Doug Ferguson from Ohm, with whom he played contemporaneously. Their sound is probably best described as a straight cross between instrumental progressive and space rock, with elements of electronic music thrown into the melting-pot."

Tons o' 'tron on this one....

Vivid is the debut studio album by the American rock band Living Colour, released on May 2, 1988.

English-born guitarist Vernon Reid had formed Living Colour in New York in 1984. They grew out of the Black Rock Coalition, a non-profit organization founded by (among others) Reid for black musicians interested in playing rock music. In 1986 a stable lineup was formed, consisting of vocalist Corey Glover, guitarist Vernon Reid, bassist Muzz Skillings, and drummer Will Calhoun (who had graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music). The band became experienced at touring, including performing regular gigs at the club CBGB.

Although the band scored a number of hits, they are best remembered for their signature song "Cult of Personality", which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1990. They were also named Best New Artist at the 1989 MTV Video Music Awards.

The Allnighter is the second studio solo album by Glenn Frey (November 6, 1948 – January 18, 2016), the guitarist and co-lead vocalist for the Eagles.

The album was released in mid 1984, two years after Frey's modestly successful debut album, No Fun Aloud and four years after the demise of the Eagles. It was Frey's most successful solo album throughout his whole solo career, with two Top 20 singles with "Smuggler's Blues" and "Sexy Girl".

Consolidating his solo recordings and those with the Eagles, Frey released 24 Top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, won six Grammy Awards, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998.

Emerson Lake and Palmer - Trilogy; High Resolution digital.
Mark Knopfler - Shangri-La; High Resolution digital. You can hear it when music is recorded cleanly in the studio. This album is a good example.
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours; High Resolution digital. Pretty good recording quality, especially for something from the 70's.

The Impressions are an American music group from Chicago, originally formed in 1958. Their repertoire includes doo-wop, gospel, soul, and R&B.

The group was founded as The Roosters by Chattanooga, Tennessee natives Sam Gooden, Richard Brooks and Arthur Brooks, who moved to Chicago. Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield met while singing in the same Chicago church choir. After singing in a number of local gospel groups, the two of them joined "The Roosters" in 1957 to become Jerry Butler & the Impressions. By 1962, Butler and the Brookses had departed, and after switching to ABC-Paramount Records, Mayfield, Gooden, and new Impression Fred Cash collectively became a top-selling soul act. Mayfield left the group for a solo career in 1970.

Inductees into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame, and Grammy Hall of Fame in 1988 for their hit "People Get Ready".

Sketches of Spain is an album by Miles Davis, recorded between November 1959 and March 1960 at the Columbia 30th Street Studio in New York City, released July 18, 1960. An extended version of the second movement of Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) is included, as well as a song called "Will o' the Wisp", from Manuel de Falla's ballet El amor brujo (1914–1915).

Sketches of Spain is regarded as an exemplary recording of Third Stream, a musical fusion of jazz, European classical, and styles of world music. Evans and Davis won the 1961 Grammy Award for Best Original Jazz Composition for Sketches of Spain.

Sketches of Spain is widely considered by fans and critics to be one of the most accessible albums of Davis' career. It is less improvisational than much of his other work. Replying to suggestions that Sketches of Spain was something other than jazz, Davis told Rolling Stone magazine, "It's music, and I like it".

In 2003, the album was ranked number 358 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

"The Unforgettable Fire" is a song by rock band U2. The fourth song on their 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire, it was released as the album's second single in April 1985.

The title is a reference to "The Unforgettable Fire"—an art exhibit about the atomic bombing of Hiroshima. The band saw the exhibit in November 1983 in Japan while on the War Tour.

The single was released on a 12" 45 rpm record with 4 bonus tracks...
  • 1. "The Three Sunrises"
  • 2. "The Unforgettable Fire"
  • 3. "A Sort of Homecoming" (Live at Wembley Arena, London, England, 15 November 1984)
  • 4. "Love Comes Tumbling"
  • 5. "Bass Trap"

Girls Go Wild is the alternate (and incorrect) title of the 1979 debut studio album by Texas-based blues rock band, The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The album was an eponymous release, but due to the prominence of the words "Girls Go Wild" on the cover it has often been referred to by that name. Though the album sold poorly, it is now generally regarded as a successful white blues recording.

The Fabulous Thunderbirds is an American, Grammy-nominated blues rock band, formed in 1974, with Kim Wilson's lead vocals and harp, Jimmie Vaughan as lead guitarist, and Keith Ferguson on bass guitar. Although the Fabulous Thunderbirds had become favorites of fellow musicians—opening shows for the likes of the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton—and had been critically well-received, the band's records did not sell well. "Tuff Enuff" remains the band's only Top 40 hit, peaking at number 10.

Jimmie Vaughan left the band to play in a duo with his brother Stevie Ray Vaughan; following Stevie Ray's death in 1990, Jimmie pursued a full-time solo career.

On February 16, 2000, the Fabulous Thunderbirds were the first band ever to be broadcast on the Internet using high-definition cameras.

The Black Album is the eighth studio album by American rapper Jay Z, released on November 14, 2003.

It was advertised as his final album before retiring, which is also a recurring theme throughout the songs, although Jay Z resumed his recording career in 2006. For the album, Jay Z wanted to enlist a different producer for each song, working with Kanye West, The Neptunes, Timbaland, Rick Rubin, and 9th Wonder, among others. Dr. Dre and DJ Premier were originally supposed to be among these producers; however, they did not make the final cut.

When The Black Album was released, it received widespread acclaim from critics. In its first week, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. In 2005, The Black Album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album (losing to Kanye West's The College Dropout).

It was ranked number 349 in Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.

Just One Night is a live double album by blues rocker Eric Clapton, released in 1980. It was recorded live at the Budokan Theatre, Tokyo, Japan, December 1979.

Eric Patrick Clapton (born 30 March 1945), is an English rock and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and Cream.
"Wonderful Tonight" was our wedding song 23 years ago, so this is a romantic, sentimental pick for my wife on Valentine's Day.

We also saw Jimmie Vaughan (see a few posts above) open for Clapton, probably 21-22 years ago, so there was a connection there too.
