Great band! Just bought "Lightbulb Sun" . Not as strong as the others but still likable.

Wonder why Beatle fans like this band so much....

burt bacharach, original movie soundtrack, 'butch cassidy and the sundance kid'.

a&m factory reel to reel tape, 7.5 ips.

played on my just-got-working akai gx-230d reel to reel machine. i just bought it off ebay as replacement for my mainstay-akai 630dss-which has flutter issue and is going in for repairs-cuz it's too difficult for me to do.
230d came 11/10 with no pinch roller, WTF!!

so rolf at http://angelfire.com/electronic2/vintagetx/, suggested using p-roller from 630 as temp fix.
they just happen to be the same size-WHAT LUCK-WHAT ARE THE ODDS?!

so i did.
had to fashion a few washers and find an approx sized screw to get the whole thing working. put it all together and-

VOILA!!

work well it does! sounds great! those akai gx heads really help.
reel to reel offers up an 'airy' and dynamic sound that i dont find in any other format, imo. 'course, i havent heard sacds, stuff like that. maybe they're just as good or better.

so now i gotta play tapes on it til the novelty wears off.

and next week i get the proper p-roller from rolfs shop.

WoW! That's vintage stuff Man... I'm guessing you have a big collection of R-R tapes? I have a few myself but none were commercial tapes. They were recordings off of the radio. Mostly during the days of the "underground radio" movement. AM radio was playing the Cowsills, FM was playing Vanilla Fudge...

in the last 2 months i glommed on to about 20 factory prerecorded r2r tapes off of ebay. previously, i had maybe ~12 or so.

speaking of the cowsills, just for kicks, last week i made a cassette of cowsills songs out of downloads from http://last.fm/ .

the 20 'new' tapes are ~30 year old classical and jazz stuff. decent classic rock tapes are getting quite pricey, so i havent gotten any of those lately.
after i get my big machine (630dss) rehabbed ((in the next few months) may be a pricey piece of work-or not, i hope), i'll probably try to aquire some more classic rock tapes.
most of my original 12 are classic rock bought back in the day.
