I have ordered over a dozen new albums this week alone, all based on this thread.
How's a guy gonna upgrade cables if he's always broke??????
1. I order used CD most of the time, what I buy is often no longer "in print" anyway.
2. Make your own cables. I'm liking magnet wire for its lack of insulation/shield and solid core "construction".
It's not for everyone, I seem to have caused a bunch of replies to be deleted with a moderator warning issued to them about "attacking" other members (me). I did see a couple of them, the phrases "crackpot engineering" and "unwanted hobbyist opinion" appeared.
3. I've reviewed a lot of the entries here myself, but (I hope I don't sound snobbish) I don't remember buying one from the offerings. Some of them I already have. Musically, for me, the composition comes first, second may be the performer/stylist, third is the actual performance, and oddly, last is probably sonics.
When the performer is the composer, there is usually a good performance, and if they've recorded it well, then its a keeper for sure. It still boils down to the composition, though. Jazz sometimes elevates an otherwise forgettable tune, so there are variations to my rules.
I've had the DiMeola Beatles thing on my shopping list for a while, haven't heard much of it, I'm waiting for someone to get sufficiently tired of their copy.
