Ok, maybe you have got me there. Then again, "San Francisco" was just talking about the phenomenon: Donovan WAS (part of) that phenomenom.
He even made fun of it while a part of it:
"....beatniks out to make it rich,
Oh no,
Must be the Season of the Witch"
What could be more hippy than
"I will bring you gold apples, and grapes made of rubies,
That have shone in the eyes of
A Prince of the Breeze"
70 yrs old and this album (Sunshine Superman) still trips me out. No need for drugs, just the music (and of course the dream-like images evoked by the lyrics).

Not sure why - I stumbled across the Mellow Yellow LP at a Flea Market and it has been one of the favorite spins of late. The wife was particularly impressed.

Not very good sonically, just some cheap ez listening to start the day. Live compilation from parts unknown.

One of those CD's where people who want their system to make everything sound good would complain.

I just turn them down a little, and enjoy the musicianship that still comes through.

I looked at my copy and it too lists a copyright date on the album cover of 1962; no copyright listed on the LP label itself. Album was clearly released in 1969, so it must have been a printing error. Good catch!!

Interesting history re: RCA and A&R recording studios with this album. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canned_Wheat

I keep putting this one on, acquired recently, really nice "easy listening". So I won't post it if it goes back on again, at least, not till the next time I start over with the whole rack.

The Guess Who - So Long, Bannatyne (vinyl, 1971, RCA Records)

The opening jacket contains production info on the inside; with a color picture of the of the band. The LP record sleeve contains song lyrics, and another color picture of the band.
