Nine Inch Nails released a new 36 track instrumental album directly from them. The coolest part is that mp3 downloads are free and lossless FLAC is only $5. I am not the biggest fan but I am certainly going to support this new way of music.

You can only get the first 9 tracks for free. To get the entire album you have to pay at least $5 and you the choice of 320kbps LAME mp3, FLAC, and Apple Lossless. There's a version that comes with a blu-ray with the tracks in 24bit/96Khz audio.

I got the entire album in FLAC for free. I wasnt the one who figured out how stupidly simple it was, but I was a beneficiary of the deed. :P The BluRay version might be worth having though.....I havent listened to it yet so I dont know.

I paid the $5 for the Apple Lossless version, and have to say it was worth it. In comparison to previous NIN stuff, this is pretty minimalist electronica, which I like, and the recording quality in my opinion is excellent.

+1 on all of the positive comments. I bought the excellent sounding flac files. The music really gets into your head after a couple of listens. I've d/led enough music that it would be foolish of me to try to persuade anybody to support this artist's bold marketing approach.

I would recommend to everyone who enjoys this to pay at least $5 dollars for the Flac version. Trent is someone who really understands and respects audio quality. Something truly lacking is Music today. Show him some support!

Needless to say, I ordered the bluray version, and dloaded the Flac.

Too bad that they put the hirez stuff only on bluray - DVD-A would have been a nice option. I suppose that is an indication of what is to come, however.

Having said that, this is coolness for sure. I hope more artists follow in their footsteps.

I saw Best Buy has the vinyl version listed for 16.98 and an "import" cd for 13.99. I'm assuming that vinyl price is wrong, but does anyone know for sure?

I hope this is the case actually. SACD and DVD-Audio have no chance of making into the mainstream at this point and thus being accepted by the recording industry. Hopefully, high-rez blu-ray audio will be. That would be exciting.
