Hello,

The AudioSmile modded Behringer SRC2496 DAC got a good write up in the Affordable$$Audio ezine (article at link below).

http://www.affordableaudio.org/AudiosmileBehringer.pdf

One problem I saw with this article was that the author did not have a stock SRC2496 to compare with the modded unit. The cost differential is $142 stock versus ~$600 AudioSmile modded delivered to your house.

Has anyone done a direct comparison? What does the $450 premium for the modded unit buy you in sound quality?

Regards,

Thanks,

Nothing positive to be sure. The only thing it could do is to distort the waveforms in the analog stage and I don't think that is positive. DAC's do their job with complete accuracy. As long as you don't foul up the analog signal after the conversion, the results will be the same from all of them. Probably the modification will get you nothing beyond pride of ownership. You can judge the value of that for yourself.
