They both definitely have a different character. The RX6's have a bigger (because they're...bigger), flatter sound. They're definitely more dynamic and I suppose you'd say they're more suited to "rocking out." The Toys are much more laid back and very colored. They tend to smooth out rough-edged recordings, of which there are a lot in metal Not accurate, but extremely pleasant to listen to. Overall I prefer the sound of the Toys for pretty much all music, including metal. The goal is to eventually save my pennies and get a pair of SF floorstanders.

Makes total sense. In general, most rock and metal recordings aren't engineered as well as they could be (plus these days the levels are maxed out). Kind of reminds me how my B&Ws are less fatiguing and the Sierras point out all the glaring recording issues.

Ahhh...my first choice was a 1200, but we couldn't afford even the used ones, now that they're out of production; why are you replacing the Technics, may I ask?

It's more of a mid-fi component compared to the rest of my system, and since I'm playing more vinyl these days, I wanted a better table/cartridge.

By the way, I plan to sell my Technics/Shure M97xe for $400 if anyone wants it. It's in perfect shape, and is about 7-8 years old, and until recently, was used very little!

I may be interested in your 1200 -- do you have the dust cover and 45RPM adapter with it?

I understand your concerns; however, I personally believe the 1200 isn't really "out of place" in a higher-end setup...is there something the deck just isn't doing for you, just out of curiosity? Are you getting surface noise of some kind or something else? Remember, Technics essentially marketed these as high-end home hi-fi decks before the DJs took to them for their ridiculous rugged reliability and build quality (I used two of 'em when I had a mobile DJ business)...

Well, I don't think these tables are known for extracting the last once of audiophile nirvana out of the grooves, plus that whole DJ thing bugs me!

Excellent; and you were the original owner? Do you have a Technics slipmat on the platter or the rubber one?

I suppose we can take this to a private conversation, so as not to hijack and derail the thread...

Based on my own experience with the decks, I disagree...and I know other 1200 aficionados do, as well...they ARE, in fact, known for pulling audiophile nirvana out of vinyl if properly set up and running the right half-inch cart...but if YOU didn't like the sound, well that's something else...

Nice!

My two channel setup is similar to yours, with my speakers flanking the rack like that...mine's a corner-loaded setup, unfortunately, because of the room it's in...so we're doing the best with what we have, acoustics wise...

Do you work from home, or is that just some kind of audio/visual setup?

I ask because I have a home office that looks very similar, same carpeted floors with a very similar quasi-"wraparound" glass desk...
