Any other AVS members with more dedicated audio-only setups?

I went through several pages of this thread and saw several stereo only set-ups, though many, like myself use their space to combine both into a single set-up. I listen to 2 channel music everyday as I am doing now as I type this. Though, there is a screen that comes down and the center channel is there, it is a slammin 2 channel stereo setup that also kicks ass when its movie or concert video time.

Here's my dedicated 2 channel room. NAD C 375BEE amp, with NAD CD player on top. Left turntable is an AT-LP120 set up for 78's only. Right turntable is Music Hall Ikura for the regular stuff. Sitting on top of CD player is a Matrix M-Stage HP2 headphone amp and a NAD phono stage. Cans are AKG Q701's, and speakers are KEF LS50's. The diagonal setup is based on an article by Steve Deckert of Decware, and works REALLY good in my small (11x12) room.

Very nice, crn, and thanks for the dedicated setup pic! I have that same AT-LP120 but use it for playback of everything. I, too, have a cornered, diagonal setup like yours but I'd be very interested in learning more about this article by Steve at Decware regarding this...do you have any links to that?

My 2.1 audio-only setup.

Outlaw Audio RR2150 receiver
Sierra One speakers
Paradigm DSP-3200 w/PBK sub EQ
Sony SCD-CE-595-5 disc SACD/CD changer
Harman Kardon DMC-1000-
Sony MDS-JE320-Minidisc player/recorder
Dell 20" Monitor-(needed to navigate the DMC1000)

A few details...The RR2150 is one of only a handful of
analog stereo receivers that has bass mgmt. I use a
crossover of 80Hz for the Sierra Ones. The Paradigm
sub has the PBK (perfect bass kit) subwoofer EQ. Similiar
to Audyssey but it eq's only the sub. I have a flat response
from 30z up to 120hz. The DMC1000 has a built in hard
drive that stores all my CD's in WAV lossless. When connected
to the internet it downloads album artwork etc.

Its a decent little system that sounds pretty good.

Indeed, I was eyeing that Outlaw receiver before I got my Onkyo 8555...seems the market for a well-made two-channel receiver has been dwindling (sure, you can buy that $99 Insignia crap at Best Lie, but that's not what I'm referring to) and Outlaw answered that market niche with a pretty solid product...personally, however, the styling wasn't for me what with its art-deco "radio of the '50s" design...though I hear it puts out nice sound. And yes, it is one of the only stereo receivers that can adjust bass management with a sub; my Onkyo allows for a sub hookup via a preout jack, but there's no control for the crossover...so if you run a sub with this unit, the main speakers play full-range while the sub puts out...well...who knows what, LOL...

Just do me one favor -- clean up those wires and do some cable management!

Funny that you would mention the 'art deco' style of the
2150...the looks of the unit got me 'hooked'. It think it's
Very different in a good way. Different strokes I guess.
I originally had my eye on the now discontinued HK990.
But, it was too pricey for me.

I struggle with cable mgmt...when I set the system up
I put the equipment rack in a closet...then realized that
There isn't a power outlet in there..duh. I lost the backing
To the stand too. You'd probably have a cardiac episode
If you saw the wiring for my main system!
But,...I've seen far worse on this forum. I've got some
Zip ties...I'll get to work!

Thanks!

Indeed; styling -- especially for items like electronics and automobiles -- is definitely an "eye of the beholder" thing. I didn't care for the styling of the Outlaw, but plenty of people do (and there are plenty of people who would call the faceplate of my stereo receiver "cold," "sterile" and "boring" though its "no-nonsense," "all-business" look is what drew ME to it):

LOL -- I'm glad I could inspire you, and I look forward to your updated configuration!

In all seriousness, cable management isn't easy, I know; luckily, in our 5.1 system in the living room, we have a massive entertainment center so no wires show from the receiver, Blu-ray player and cable box...upstairs, in the dedicated two-channel room, the system sits on an open-shelf-design Bell'O rack that has those "cable channels" which run down the side and are basically useless after many thick cables are pushed through there...it's been a nightmare doing cable management on my stereo setup because I have so many components with multiple connecting cables that I needed to "fish" through the side of the rack. I'll tell you this -- I'm not doing another "open rack" setup if we move and I have to set this system up in a new room/house. As it stands, you can somewhat see some of the "tied up" cables feeding into the channels on the side of the rack, but there was nothing I could do about that with the style of this "audio tower," as seen here:

Do you have any pics of your HT/main system?

^^^^^.. I think that Onkyo looks sharp!
One of the key influences of my purchase
Decision was the inclusion of bass mgmt.
Of course an AVR can accomplish the same

Yes, an AVR would accomplish that task quickly and easily -- but I didn't want (and never recommend) a surround-oriented receiver for a dedicated music-only rig...

He made it clear that the "screen" in his two-channel system was for something other than TV or film watching, and I had REQUESTED pics of his home theater-oriented system here, which would of course INCLUDE a screen of some kind...

Thanks Gents, if you are at all familiar with the HK DMC1000
It is literally impossible to navigate thru 500 CDs with
The unit alone. It has a nice touch panel but only 1 line
Of display. It operates very similar to a computer using
iTunes in the way it organizes the music. You can also
set up playlists too. It can stream different audio to 4
Separate zones simultaneously. Full featured unit..original
MSRP of $3500,

Re: Stereo + TV

I don't see that much of a conflict anymore.

Not since TV became nice slim flatscreens and the signals are compatible with the stereo. The old CRT wouldn't fit in nearly as well.

All my digits are two-channel stereo. They all take the same path through a switch and optional processing and to the decoder. Some of them might come from a source that includes video, so, let's see what's there while we listen.

No video signal included? TV goes off... I stare at the little lights on the equipment, or not.

Ray,

I totally understand that -- but what I am trying to say (and attempted to explain this to Arcane) is that I was merely PERSONALLY curious if anyone was still running a "music only" setup in perhaps a bonus room, as I have done that and was merely curious to see other people's systems like that. There was NO OTHER agenda at play here; I had to make do with a multipurpose music/HT setup in a previous apartment I lived in so I totally understand the necessity and need there (and that's fine), but in my current house we have a 5.1 setup in the downstairs living/family room and a two-channel STEREO only setup in the upstairs loft area...

No argument intended...

I'm not even sure how the exchange went before, just had my thought and, oops! Out it came.

I don't have a multichannel setup, don't think I want one, at least not without a real 'theater' sort of room to support it (which is unlikely to happen).

I'll be back later...

You don't have to have a "real theater room" to have or enjoy a home cinema setup; most folks are set up in their living room areas and use simple one-piece television systems as their main display (myself included)...but there is no rule that says you HAVE to have a separate, dedicated home theater-oriented screening room of sorts...

For 2 channel relaxing, I simply use the LS-9's on their own, but will admit that adding the eight 18" infinite baffle subs to fill in the bass happens more often than not.

^^I have to follow that^^
Awesome speakers man!

I hope I'm not stepping on toes with my 2 channel/HT setup. I have a pre-amp on the way to connect with an Emo XPA-2, and hoping to get another XPA-2 soon and use them as mono blocks. There connected to a pair of Klipsch P38 Palladium towers. I enjoy 2 channel more, but there is an AVR, sub, and surround speakers for the family to watch movies on. I envy you all with dedicated listening/HT rooms.
