I'm looking for a new cartridge for my Rega RP1 turntable.

I have a the OM5e on my Rega, I looked at the Ortofon 2 M Blue and the Rega Bias 2.

If any of you guys have any suggestion from experience it will be very helpful to make a decision, my budget is $200.

I use AT150, but its price is in $280-300 range. It seems that main difference from 440 is stylus material (boron vs. aluminum).

It was on sale at $280 from two major on-line retailers just few days ago. Wait for another opportunity.

You can also look at Denon DL-160.

I use a Ortofon 2m Blue on my Linn Sondek LP 12. Both the Rega and the Linn are similar in that they are warm sounding TTs. The Ortofon has some very nice top end detail and will add some dynamics to your sound.

The Ortofon did wonders for my Aerial 6's which are rolled off on the top end.
Price is ar $199.

AT440 can be had on Amazon - through Amazon for $99 shipped. Good deal. They are out of stock for another week but, you can place your order.

I upgraded my Rega P1 with that cartridge and really like it. Install was fairly easy even though it was my first cartridge swap.

I have a AT150 I keep for a spare incase of emergency. Its really a pretty good cart offering about 80-85% of what my Dynavector 20L can do, but the Dyna is over twice as much. The 440 is a decent cart too, they both have a crisp lively sound that I like (Idont care for more rolled bacl carts like say the Benz carts sound.)

Man the Dynavector 20L look amazing but The price is $800 out of my range I'm ordering the Ortofon 2M Blue, hopping to hit the jackpot for the price and reviews.

I have a friend with a $2500 cart from Clear Audio I believe and yes its better than the Dyna but IMO $200 better if I had to put a number on it. The trouble is squeeking out that last bit gets real pricey.

I have been very pleased w/the 2m blue. Also after about 40-50hrs of break in it will really hit its stride.
What type of speakers are you matching up the cart with??

I heard the Exposure w/matching CD player hooked up to a pair of Spendors
a few months ago at the dealer I frequent. Nice smooth top end, good soundstage w/out any digital grain. Typical British very few bells & whistles,
all the money was spent for quality parts. On par w/the Naim philosophy. The
Ortofon should match up well with (as the British say) your kit.

The Blue is a very nice cartridge with the right system. I have been very pleased with what $200 gets you with this one. I agree that it takes a number of hours to really settle in.

Think I'm going to try the Bronze on the next lap.

See ya. Dave

Thanx to all for helping me to make this decision.

Hi,

There are two versions of the Ortofon Blue
Ortofon 2M Blue and 2M Blue Verso

Which one would I need to buy for the Rega RP1?
