Okay, so what does "best possible sound" mean to you?
How old are your ears? Will your source files be MP3 or lossless flac?
In my opinion, if your source files are only mp3, why not skip the expense of the DAC and use the headphone out direct direct from the phonel to the speakers (I may be incorrect in assuming the signal level will be ok from the headphone out to provide a useable signal for your speakers with this suggestion - others who KNOW rather than assume can comment here)
If on the other hand your source files are "best quality" lossless flac files, use the usb out (with an OTG usb cable, of course) to your choice of DAC (a quick re-read of all the above posts will give you some idea of best choice of DAC - I personally like my Oppo HA-2), then I would suggest the rca line out from DAC to speakers.
I suspect that (depending possibly on the version of android you are running) you will definitely need to use a third party player (again re-read posts above for choices - again, personally I have been exceptionally happy with the UAPP Pro app: it has succesfully played multi-channel 96/24 5.1 surround flac files and flawlessly mixed the 5.1 tracks down to 2 for headphones).
Depending on the DAC and speakers you choose, you may need a cable that has a 3.5mm rca on the dac end, and a split left/right rca plugs on the other (I think the Audioengine speakers gave you a choice, but not the PSB which I think will need the split left/right plug on one end).
