Would two Monitor 60 towers + Denon 1611 work for a two channel system? I realize that I won't get good bass out of this, but I just want something clean and believable hah

Any suggestions on a two channel setup which will provide just enough bass to be enjoyable and not completely flat? I'm guessing a budged of 600ish?

I also realize that 600 is probably not enough for this kind of thing :/
(stuff is expensive! haha)

I ran a 1611 and a pair of monitor 70s for a few months, no issues. Enjoyed it very much while I saved funds to increase to full 7.1 surround.

Also look in to something like the HK 3490, an excellent 2 channel receiver.

I don't need snobs to tell me how to think, thank you!

What you've proposed would be fine; if you want more bass, grab a subwoofer - the PSW10 or 110 (Both Polk) aren't end-of-the-world equipment, but they'd be better than nothing.

And what's wrong with $600? That's more than enough to accomplish what you want here.

Actually, the 1612 is probably a better choice for the receiver.

The Monitor 60s would probably give you all of the bass you will want for listening to most music, but of course the Monitor 70s have quite a bit more bass.

MY advice, however, would be to get some better speakers than those. There is a fantastic deal right now at Music Direct that I suggest you take advantage of. The Wharfdale EVO2-20 speakers are on closeout there. They are $1200 retail and you can get a pair of them now for only $480. Those are going to sound a LOT better than the Monitor 60s!

Add $250 for the 1612 receiver and you have around $700, and you will have some speakers that will really sound nice. Stretch the budget a little and go first-class!

Maybe for a small desktop computer stereo setup, but not for this. I'd go without before buying the PSW10 based on the testimonials I've seen from people that have had them. For instance.

Better to save a couple hundred toward the sub and ask for advice on the AVS subwoofer forum for the current best deal.

If you don't need optical input, the HK 3390 is very nice for the price for just stereo. Otherwise, for a 5.1 AV receiver, commsysman is right. The 1612 is $250 right now at Amazon.

Perhaps there are Wharfdale dealers in Canada?
