I bought a Cowon Z2 android music player and although it has really good sound quality, the max volume is not loud enough. Is it good to raise the EQ on all bands to increase overall volume or is that bad practice? Will it affect sound quality?

Thanks in advance

That is a definate "It depends"

The general exposure is that if you set all bands high, they won't sum to flat enough response. Whether that happens enough to bother you is mostly dependent on the technical details of how your player is made.

The safer approach is to add an outboard headphone amplifier like a FIIO E5.

Try a different amp. There are much better designs out there.

For openers the CmoyBB schematics I've seen don't allow switching the bass boost out. The Fiio E5 does. I

I just solved my own problem. I got Volume+ from Play store and increased the maximum volume. It works great! I turned it up to 10 and didn't notice any distortion.

That looks like an effective solution. Stick around kid, a lot of us are still to obtain our first smart phone and someone needs to take up the slack! ;-)

I agree with this response, given the (general) design of graphic equalizers, but ...

if you're satisfied, it's all that matters and the problem really is solved.

No apology needed, Arny. There are still a bunch of us old schoolers that don't want to live life through a gadget like some sort of i-zombie.
