Well i just got rid of my Logitech X-540 5.1 as i dont use 5.1 for gaming anymore i use a headset and i want better speaker sound quality biggrin.gif.

Im now after some 2.1 speakers but i have no idea what to get, i was thinking a passive set up

Mostly will be used for music (pretty much every kind) while im not at my pc (have my AD700's for when i am biggrin.gif) maybe some Youtube videos and movies on occasion.

Budgets kinda hard to say but for now i'll say... maybe $500 total max

At the moment its gonna be onboard sound, if you want to suggest a sound card for music 30% and gaming 70% that would be cool to

Thanks

I don't think you want a passive setup because no way does a typical audio interface have the kind of power it takes to do a decent job of driving passive speakers.

It would seem like active speakers or a AVR plus passive speakers are your two options.

Speaker pricing varies a lot by geographic location, and since I'm in the US I have no idea what the price performance situation is where you appear to be which does not appear to be the US.

The audio interface that you are currently using is probably not a major stumbling block since it seems to be acceptable with your headphones, which are IME pretty sensitive to bad sound (I have a pair).

I thought about AVR and passive speakers, pricing in Aus sucks bad lol. At the moment im using onboard sound but im thinking about going for an ASUS Xonar Essence STX sound card.

I was looking at speakers not that i know what im doing lol :P. i was looking at NHT SuperZero 2.0 speakers and SKYTEC SHFS10W sub (not sure about this one tho) and i have no idea about the AVR im a n00b with audio stuff lol

Im just gonna go for the Swan M50W 2.1 speakers, a passive setup will cost to much in Aus -_- mad.gif.

Anyone got recommendations on sound cards?

Hey Aussiejuggalo, it seems like you made a decision. Its a good one too! smile.gif As for sound cards, the Asus Essence STX or even an external DAC like the FiiO E10 or HRT Music Streamer II should suffice.

I thought its easier to get an all in one 2.1 speakers, as for the sound card im thinking the Asus Essence STX it should be a good sound card to go with the Swan M50W's for music and Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 headphones for gaming biggrin.gif
