Hi All, First time post.
I'm pretty new to quality hifi and I'm trying to get the best out of what ive built up so far, I have a RB1090 driving very large custom built floor dynaudio speakers (pic attached). I just sold my Rotel 1069 as have decided I don't want surround sound and was very disappointed with remote.

Id really appreciate peoples thoughts on a suitable preamp for under $750, happy to buy second hand older equipment.

Thanks in advance.
Paul

What sources are you intending to use?

Despite the impressive nature of your mains, they fall well short of what can be done with comparable investment in a subwoofer. Ever plan to upgrade?

If your looking for a solid 2 channel preamp that's within your budget and will also give you a sub out feature check out the Parasound 2100. Of course that's depends on the audio features you require.smile.gif

Hi Armyk, The sources I am using are mainly feeding from a pc where I have backed up my CDs as flac files. The only other source is a western digital media centre. Sure I'd add a sub if I thought bass was lacking but pretty happy with these for now, plus would need to convince my bride to give me more real estate in the lounge wink.gif Would love to hear your suggestion.

Thanks Class A, just looked that preamp up and it looks perfect. Appreciate it. Now to find one second hand or on sale!

Thanks again

No need to look very far AVSFAN88 for a deal on a Parasound 2100. Audio Advisor has factory refreshed 2100's right now. Please see link.

http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=2PAC2100

I bought a refreshed unit from AA a few years ago and could not tell the difference between it and a brand new one. I am very pleased with the 2100 and have no intention of upgrading preamps anytiime soon. Hope this helps.

Parasound 5125, Parasound 2100, Pro-ject RM 5.1SE, Dynavector 10x5, Pro-ject Phono Box S, Pro-ject Speed Box II, Arcam FMJ CD17, Pioneer Elite VSX-52, Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD, Vienna Acoustics Bach Grands, Vienna Acoustics Theatro Grand, Wharfedale Diamond 9.2s, REL T-1 & Panasonic TC-P54S1

I suggest that you look around for a used Audio Research preamp, which will sound far better IMO than any of the new preamps that you can buy for under $1500.

The LS2 is very good, and the SP9 is another one that is quite good. You can find them for sale now and then, although most owners tend to keep them a very long time.

Audiogon and EBay have listings from time to time.

Have you thought about the matching Rotel RC-1090 preamp? I usually see them go for $6-700 used on Audiogon. I have a Rotel pre-power combo and I've been pleasantly surprised. The clarity on the Rotel gear is excellent.

I very much doubt that you can find a preamp for much under $2000 that will be on a par with the rest of your gear or do your speakers justice.

One possibility would be to find an Audio Research LS2 used; that is a nice one that might be found for around $1000 or so.

The Vincent SA31MK is around $1500 new, and is very good. The Van Alstine T8 is also good at $1299.

I cannot recommend any of the Parasound preamps that go for under $1000; I am quite certain that you would be disappointed with the sound quality.
