The problem with collections, or "best of" CDs and LPs is that the recordings were done at many different venues by different engineers with different equipment, and the sound quality varies accordingly. This is usually quite noticeable when listening with even mediocre sound systems (even in the car).
In my experience, the best recordings are often "live" recordings that were done at an auditorium or club. Some studio recordings can be very good, but often they are not.
"Live" recordings, if well done, have an acoustic ambiance that makes the recording special sometimes.
I suggest that you get his "Live in Reno" DVD, which Amazon has for $15. I suspect you might like it. It is a live concert from 2000.
