I'm starting this thread as a newbie to put out there what I have come in contact with & liked.
I've been around well before cassettes, & enjoyed Vinyl with a Thorens TT until yesterday when I sold it. I was amazed when DBX put out coded Albums with a decoder box, & still to this day believe they are fantastic in almost every way!!, the Dynamic range is as good as any super high quality download in FLAC or other file. I was poor so every piece was worked & saved for! I started with recievers, & thanks to this forum I recently acquired a Denon 1913 from 4less @ 379 refurbed,
I mention this because it's the 5th reciever I've had, & as you may know the Audessy setup is quite good. It's my second Denon the other is still playing it's a AVR-1010. I have 2 rooms one video & one audio, I enjoy them differently. I was lucky enough to have purchased used, many years ago
Meitner mono-blocks & the pre amp Pa6, & a pair of small 3 way mini-tower speakers called alon 1's they were 2 months salary, as was the amps. I also had a Cyrus integrated amp 40wpc model vs6
& again thanks to this Forum & the competant folks here I've ordered th Emotiva amp & pre,
They were so nice to me!! in this day & age we rarely come across this level of Respect for our hard earned dollars. I'd like the thread to continue with anything pertaining to Audio, I have struggled with affording things so I bought a great deal of equiptment used & I'm happy with that to this very day.

Anything I know, or anything I can do, to help anyone make any decisions to buy equiptment,
I owe the Forum & will attempt, to help people, Enjoy Audio more.Who wants to chime in?

Personal beliefs aside, laboratory tests tell a different story. DBX has done well when applied to over-the-air audio transmission. The noises and limitations of cassettes and LPs are far more severe and complex to overcome. Digital was the death of both the basic media and the attempts to circumvent its inherent problems.

OTOH going back and listening to these old recordings strikes a sentimental note and can strongly activate the pleasure centers of our brains.

I both agree & disagree with your answer. What I agree with is the Sentimental factor of Heart ,Neil Diamond, Eric Clapton, Styx, etc Classic Rock & How You could be Nostalgic for it & have it affect you evaluation. The noise & death of digital & your facts I believe are correct,BUT. Anyone who listens to Vinyl, has to deal with these limitations, & there are good & bad records & there are OUTSTANDING DBX Discs that still pop & click a little, & occasionally the Decoder will Pump the Volume a little bit. BUT I stand by my assessment that this was & they are an absolutely Phenomenal Experience that everyone "IMHO" should weigh in on. So in Summary I have the Decoder & 15 Albums, I've sold my TT & I'd like people to weigh in on who in the forum is the record Guy, That these should be evaluated by? I struggle to find CD's that sound even close to the quality of these Records
I'm humble & I'm new , so I'm very teachable Now as for the pleasure centers of our brains, there is a thread "What are you listenning to now?"
I'm watching Live from daryl's house, through the Soundstreemerll Dac, & a small single tube amp, into my AMP & it's Nice!

Well then we share an appreciation for that show. I listen to it through a Scientific Atlanta DVR, a Mitsubishi DLP TV, a Panasonic SHAC 500 surround processor set to stereo, driving a pair of Sennheiser HD 160 digital link wireless headphones. ;-)

So back on the DBX discs, i guess I'll have to contact a moderator or Official to get this evaluation/lending thing going? I just don't want to put them on E-bat right away!
I may have to fing a Vinyl thread to continue? Any way Pleasure talking with you!

Is it possible as audiophiIles to miss what is actually right under our nose!
I'm talking about the Rage over crown amps & the folks in several threads, & home theatre,
talking about the quality!!& Good looks!!LOL. I think it might be the best bang for the buck!
& the best find around. I urge everyone to look & see for themselves.
I personally will be Comparing the 1500 300wpc to the Emotive 150wpc
The rsults along with the equiptment will be posted in about 3 weeks!

Regarding the start of this thread, I think the DBX disc was way ahead of it's time!

I am also an old audio head, I still have my tube crown equipment and I still enjoy it very much.
I also have a fairly new AV receiver for my video set up there I enjoy the features and functions but for pure audio quality I truly enjoy the 2 channel set up.cool.gif

I have run the Crown XLS 1500 in 2 channel for my mains. Its the same as any other amp.

Some annoyances with this and any other amp.

3 prong ground design (2 prong thanks, hum is teh devil)
annoying blue leds and backlight

Some positivies.
Huge power
cheap compared to audiophile amps
can be repurposed for a bridged/sub amp
very lightweight
balanced jacks

I level matched and compared a denon 4311, emotiva xpa 3, crown xls 1500, parasound 1206...there is no difference when level matched with a calibrated mic. Ran everything at 90db at the main seat. The crown was setup on stereo bypass with filters off, unbalanced connections.

REW...most expensive freeware ever...

Thank you SO so much!!! You've provided me & everyone else reading this thread some mighty valuable Information.
Class A, AB & class D amps get the job Done! I guess the only thing left is to talk about Tubes.
Let me put a pic of my new desire!!

I now have a dozen or more CD's through the Crown XLS-1500Amp & XDA-2 Pre/Dac.
It seems just right, CD's that are thin are always thin & rich & dynamic material is even more enjoyable.
The Eagles Hotel California is my current favorite.
I bought the small polk sub, & it's actually a bit more than I needed.
Currently finding the best Volume level for it to blend nicely into the mix.
The Volume on the Emo xda goes from -100 to +10,
I'm @ -30 for low volume to -5 for high volume, the volume control is silky perfect slow acting!
I would prefer a bit more sensitivity & speed of operation,
but I am using the Crown which is known to need a bit more Volts to Act.
Volume control in the +1 to +5 will rarely be needed.

Had the Crown XLS 1500 now long enough to really like the Power!!!
Yes there is a very tiny amount of Hum when using RCA, Not the Balanced, no hum with them.

The Emo XDA has plenty enough gain to power it to 100db BUT
I bought a behringer FBQ-800 EQ for 10db of line level increase, & some SMALL tone control
VERY VERY happy with it!! Also very happy with my little PSW 10 sub

So on summary crown plus emo + any blue-ray dig coax or fiber cable, good speaks OK sub & I'm in business. in a large 25x 30 room.
The Denon 1913 will get RTi-A1's next week, currently using cheap pioneer bs-21's , hoping that the Polks will justify their price??
