While I have another thread comparing Project to Rega, an opportunity just arose and I was hoping someone who has heard both could give me some input. A friend of mine is helping in an estate sale and there is a ClearAudio Concept turntable (with tonearm and cartridge installed and working). The date of manufacture was 2003 and they are willing to sell it for $250. While this is a low cost entry model into vinyl, I don't want to spend the money if a Project Carbon would sound better. Anyone out there have an idea if the Concept at this price is a bargain or a has been?

Why is there NO perfect equipment, only compromises?

Do you have a picture of it? The date of manufacture/model name doesn't make sense.

I don't think the Concept was released in 2003... It's more than likely a Champion (either black or clear acrylic body). For $250, I would pick up ANY Clearaudio turntable, yes, they're that good. (plus, if you don't like it, you can sell it and darn near double your money)

You're right, I should have looked more carefully, it's an EMOTION.

Would this make an effective low-cost suspension? My floor is solid concrete with a carpet over it, so maybe I won't need any suspension. My only concern would be a certain frequency vibrating the stand (very stable Salamander stand).

That's a great turntable!

As long as it's on a good stand, you'll be fine. Don't worry too much about vibrations... you have to play pretty darn loud for the music to have a negative impact.

It was a $1000 table and a very good one for the money. As the others have said, you should definitely get it.

I've decided to get it. The guy is packing it up and driving it up to his home. I should have it the end of next week. Thanks for all your help.
