My thoughts after I installed the Sumiko Pearl on my zero;

First impression was that the Pearl rides low on the tonearm and because of that setting the stylus force is tricky to say the least, in the end I'm confident I got it right.

It tracks great and surface noise is kept to a minimum as advertised.

It's not bright at all and IMO the highs are rolled off nicely. The midrange is this carts strong suit as of right now with under 2 hours on it and the bass is tight but not overly powerful.

I'm listening to a stereo version of the Beatles white album and the highs appear to be opening up a tad but right now it's a little laid back for my taste, I'm hoping that approves this week. All in all a very nice cartridge with lots to like.

I also added the ART preamp to the mix and although I didn't think it sounded very good in the beginning after some adjustments it sounds better than the stock phono input. Well spent 50 bucks smile.gif

Now THAT is a very seductive photo image!

Well spent is right! Venturing off into the next realm. Bought a Madisound BK-12 kit with Fostex SDFR speaker. Kit was great to assemble and initial thoughts on the sound with my 2A3 PP amp is really nice. Need to break these in for 10 hours I guess -- talked to several who mentioned that is a good idea. Will finish these in rosewood. UnfinishedBK-12.jpg 1368k .jpg file
NOW -- looking at a deal on Lowther PM5's and making a folded horm deisng - Fidelio. This is fun work but laborious. The full range sound is really sweet and in order to achieve the soundstage, had to adjust my listening position quite a bit. Who has Lowthers now???

Technics gear is very solid and sounds very good.

I really like the sound of a Technics receiver, although I hear a lot of people talking about Pioneer.  That will be my next acquisition, an old Pioneer.  Wish I could get a hold of an SX-1980, the gem of the monster receiver era.

Some of the SX1980's are going for over 2 + large I'm told the SX 1250's actually sound a little better by some folks at AK that have owned both and know the vintage Pioneers very well.
I have an SX 980, SX1050 and SX 3900 the SX 1050 is best sounding of the 3.

Try for an SX1050 or 1250 or SX X50 of some sort . The outputs in the SX X80 series receivers are near unobtainable and priced accordingly if you can find them .

OTOH readily available TO-3 outputs can be subbed in for the X50 series .

Thanks, I really appreciate the suggestions.  You've narrowed my search to either a 1050 or 1250.  :)
