hi, new to the forum. i'm wanting to start a new 2-channel setup. i am on a limited budget so this is what i have now. i bought a refurb onkyo TX8020 from A4L, 2 new monitor 30's from newegg, and 2 refurb monitor 45bs from polk audio. i already had the monitor 30's and i added the monitor 45'bs for more dispersion and louder sound for a 4 speaker system for music only. the TX8020 can drive the 4 speakers so i'm looking some opinions on where to put the monitor 30's..... in the rear of the room or put all 4 in the front. i have big bookcases on either side of my tv in a room about 15x18ft in size. thanks for your advice and happy to be a new member!

I'm not sure how well the 45bs will blend with the 30s since they're the newly redesigned model. I'm not sure the locations of the speakers are that important. You could have all four in front or on the four corners of your main listening position. I would experiment with different amounts of toe-in as well.

Sell one pair of speakers. You'll get better sound from one pair than from two.

2 Pairs or 1 pair, really depends on how you listen to music, if you like to "see" the performance then 2 speakers would be required, but if you like your system to have a "Club" like atmosphere, then 4 speakers around the room would be ideal. Adding a subwoofer would also be a good investment

Mcnarus is correct. If you insist on using 4 speakers put one pair right on top of the other or right next to the other to reduce phase cancellation. It will still sound worse than simply using one pair of speakers.

Hate to say it, but you might have saved yourself from $$ by asking BEFORE you bought anything. The only thing 4 speakers are good for is as part of a 5.1 movie system (and you're still missing the key center channel); as mentioned, they won't do you much good on the music side of things. Also, I hope that Onkyo doesn't overheat if you're going to drive all 4 at high volumes (it was a refurb after all).
