I had an old sony remotehttp://stat.dealtime.com/DealFrame/...sFtr=0&IsSmart=0&dlprc=64.99&SKU=181243188380, a sony RM-MC40ELK, and when I connect my Sony mdr-v900 headphone, there is hissing sound. So a few mth. ago, I ordered a brand new sony remotehttp://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-5...293&type=2&ext=291191577578&item=291191577578 (the remote is for my HiMD player). When it arrives, the hissing sound is gone.
Then just recently, that hissing sound comes back. As the audio jack of my headphone contacts to the portable audio remote, I have to slowly rotate the audio jack and eventually there is a certain spot that I can get sound coming out from both left / right headphone.

Otherwise, it's either hissing sound, or sound comes out from the left headphone only. Under magnifying glasshttp://www.focalprice.com/HQ0131S/5X_HandHeld_Glass_Lens_Magnifying_Glass_Silver.html, I can't see any damage or wear / tear on the jackhttp://www.shopping.com/audio-jack/products?CLT=SCH&linkin_id=8058742&subTrackingID=[USERID]. This Sony headphone is made in Japan, but 14 yr. old. Does any1 has any idea what's causing the hissing sound?

there is no dust / dirt on the remote, as this remote is very new, just a few mth. old

The contacts in the jack may be corroded/dirty.

Insert/remove the plug multiple times, twist it around, see if that cleans things up.

If you have some "electrical contact cleaner/deoxidizer" try that too.

Obviously there's a bad connection in this picture. A bad connection that hisses is a very specific thing - it is a bad connection with moisture in it, and its a bad connection that involves bare metal. The environments in which this happens are usually humid, and probably hot.

The scenario that comes to mind is that the jack in the remote has excessively loose, poorly plated contacts and after a few months of use the protective plating is worn off. Moisture enters the interface between the plug and the jack. The channel that is affected probably is probably especially poorly designed and puts less pressure on the mating surfaces as they connect.

The jack in the remote is a bad design that afflicts every unit in a given production run or every item of that make and model.

If the jack in the remote resembles a standard model jack then replacing it with a properly designed one would give you long lasting relief. If you retained your old remote an it works well otherwise it would be a good target for upgrade efforts.

Contact cleaners that leave an anti-corrosive residue might give you longer lasting but still temporary relief. One of the best products of this kind is called De-oxit.
