Official Stream Magic 6 thread

I'm not sure if there is a thread, i've looked and found nothing which is kind if surprising. So here we go. Anything goes, V1 and V2. Got mine last week (V2) and i love it. Main complain is with the Android app that crashes a lot and is too basic. Cant make playlists, have to scroll alphabetically from a to z which is a pain. Sound quality is awseome.

Focal Chorus 816v, CC800, 807V, SVS PB2000, Cambridge 751r, OPPO 103D.

I've had a version 1 for a year or so. The DAC Magic Plus that is within this streamer is surpisingly good. The dual differential design really helps stereo separation which in turn contributes to great imaging.

I find the android app way too buggy also. I use BubbleUPnP - works fine with the SM. I've tried a dozen controller apps and have come back to this one every time. My media is on a Synology NAS.

Is there an app that lets you take control of a hdd connected ot the dac, kind of like a media player?

I would do the trial or free version of BubbleUPnP and see if it will control that for you. I don't have a drive directly attached so don't know for sure.

BubbleUPnP is for android only. I've not found a satisfactory control app for iOS (for my wife's iPad) yet.

There is a new firmware that says support for the android app has been improved. I haven't tried it yet. But even if they made it work fine, I would probably stay with BubbleUPnP.

4th September 2014: v266-b-564 (v266-b-564-a-001 for NP30 with APD)
  • Improvements for companion app support (including new Android app)
  • Sort local media (USB) files according to disc number
  • Fix audio being lost at the start of playback
  • Handle currently playing item being deleted from the queue

Info is here: https://techsupport.cambridgeaudio.c...te-Information

You should see the option to download and install the firmware update when you turn your player on. Alternatively, go to the firmware section in the players menu to initiate the download manually.

Then, hopefully, the compatibility improvements are already included in your firmware.

Thank you Cambridge Audio for releasing a firmware update that doesnt work with the Stream Magic app for Android. Wow.... I thought a firmware update was supposed to make things better not WORSE. Next time there is a firmware update i'll be sure to check on the website before updating. The stream magic lite app doesnt give me access to the hdd i have hooked up directly on the dac. Now i have to control the dac with my ipod touch on a 2 inch screen with my bloated fingers. One of the major reason i went with The stream magic was the app control so i dont have to get to the tiny 4 inches screen on the dac every time i want to change tunes. Plus, i listen almost exclusively to Flac which you recommend not to stream. Fix this soon Cambridge, I have spent about 5000$ on Cambridge Audio products in the last year alone and i was getting ready to fork another 2800$ to add a 851d to my setup.

Focal Chorus 816v, CC800, 807V, SVS PB2000, Cambridge 751r, OPPO 103D.
