New hi-rez streaming service coming this fall

Just in case anyone is interested, looks like there's a new streaming service coming this fall that will provide hi-rez/lossless quality.....

http://lnc.hr/RSg21

Not a lot of details yet on content or pricing, but looks promising.

It is supposedly going to be $19.99/month. Cheaper than Qobuz, who was way to expensive. They may not make it, the way it looks.

So here's my link to sign up for early access - share the love. http://lnc.hr/nlNsY

Each of us only need three others to sign up for news of early access to get extra early access!

19.99 isn't cheap either. Like to see what their content looks like both audio and video wise. Pono hasn't even opened up yet and already they have competition.

Competition is usually a good thing for the consumer. It'll be interesting to see how things shake out in the hi-rez streaming services area. I guess the positive is that at least there seems to be a belief there's enough consumer interest to offer these services - and that not everyone is satisfied with the current lo-rez offerings.

Yes competition is good for the consumer. Did a little research and found out this is currently out in parts of Europe and Scandinavia under the title WiMP but will be Tidal here and in the UK. Not really in competition with Pono as I first thought since this a streamer only where Pono is supposedly a download site/player. I have Spotify Premium that I use at work and can't see spending 10 bucks more a month for something offering CD quality, albeit lossless, sound. It will be interesting to see how this works out especially since Qobuz is under bankruptcy protection. They were supposed to move in to the US market this fall.

Using Tidal for 2 days now on a 14 day trial. I like it, however it still has glitches, and for 20 a month, I can't justify it. The stream on a lan line works great, but my computer set up does not have the greatest speakers. If I use my Android with wifi, even with full bars, it does hiccup occasionally and pop. When it's working and I hook up to my sound system with HSU speakers, it sounds terrific. I do like it so far, but once the trial is over, I think that's it.

How is that going to be any better than netflix? They have servers installed AT the internet providers in this country. I can't see how they're going to be able to maintain higher resolutions than that or keep up with Netflix's library....that that any of these media libraries are that great at this point.

Probably overpriced since you can listen to Spotify for free with ads or $10 per month without. Of course, the universe of titles for "high rez" is quite small as well. I'll be passing.

I've been using Tidal for a couple of weeks now and the difference in sound quality between it and Spotify is night and day.

I have a decent budget headphone setup (Grado SR-80s with a FiiO E6 amp) at work and an 80 wpc Onkyo AVR with Energy RC-10s at home. I spent a lot of time listening to the same sections of music on both Spotify and Tidal before making the switch and there is an enormous difference. The bass has more oomph, the highs are cleaner, and the sound doesn't get muddy when it gets loud the way Spotify does.

As far as the library, Spotify still wins but not by as much as you'd think. I have very eclectic musical tastes and so far the only titles I haven't been able to find are the Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense and Coltrane's Blue Train. However, they have the entire Talking Heads' discography except for that and a couple of dozen other Coltrane recordings (a pretty big library of jazz in general). Every classic rock album you can imagine is there, every hip hop album you can imagine (even somewhat obscure stuff like MF Doom and Del) and they're acquiring licenses for more music all the time.

No, if you're listening to your music on your laptop speakers or your Apple earbuds it isn't worth the extra $10. If you have an even decent audio setup, I don't see how you could ever go back to Spotify once you try Tidal.
