2 channel to multi room?

is it possible to go from 2 channel to multiroom? I know very little about all this, ideally I'd like to set up 5 different areas with ceiling speakers. Am I right to think I could take one channel to say outside. Take the second channel, run that through a speaker selector and run to 4 sets indoors? I know I need to match impedance, and I'm guessing I need a high wattage? or can I get away with say a 200 watt receiver?

For me, those kind of installations are a separate area of products and knowledge. I call that distributed music. I think it's best to consult with a pro installer for these kind of issues. YMMV.
