The Citation 7.0 is a fabulous analog preamp but is no longer in production (alas). Actually it is a multichannel analog preamp (no DD/DTS) that will sound better than most of the high priced pre/pros out there now with surround music. It works great as a 2 channel preamp via its bypass setting. I believe one is available now at Audiogon for $400. Read reviews here (rated 5/5):

Try to find a used VTL 5.5, I got mine new and it is much more that what you are looking to spend. It is a fantastic tube 2ch preamp with by pass.

Gary

Have fun with music and HT

All Conrad Johnson preamps have hometheater bypass and sound heavenly in two channel stereo (better than any SS stereo pre, IMHO). The PV14L comes to mind and one is on sale on A'gon for $895.

Adcom GFP-750
Classe CP-50
Classe CP-60
Classe CP-65

If you want an intergrated amp with HT bypass input:
Krell KAV-300i

There's lots of options out there. You'll have to decide solid state vs tube vs passive yourself.

Thread is a little dusty, but...

Proceed PRE has a HT bypass loop.

Just because there is a knob doesn't mean you should turn it.

Opinions cost $$$, if your not kicking in any,,,you don't have one.
