Planning to eventually transfer some LDs to DVD, but my D703 makes several discs look rather poor due to white smear. Apparently the LX-900U and the CLD-R7G do not have this issue; however, I could not find any information regarding smearing on the LD-V8000. Would anyone have any experience with this particular player?

I haven’t the faintest idea of (smearing) although I, have transferred several laserdisc too DVD-RW for (in home use only). Pioneer CLD-1750 to Cello DR-810 DVD-RW.

Depending on recording mode that I use which can also degrade the image due to the running time of the film on laserdisc. The discs are only single layer not sure if there is duel layer DVD-RW recorder, is there one on the market?

From my memory the smearing should be relatively minimal on the LD-V8000, certainly less than virtually all other low-moderate cost US machines. It will certainly be better than the CLD-703 in this regard.
Note that this model has analog-only audio out. It will retrieve and play the digital tracks, but can only output the signal after internal D-A conversion; there is no digital output. (There is no S-Video out, either, but that is no loss.)

Now you can wait a short while to hear from Kurtis.
He'll post a reply, and it'll be more helpful on this model ...

Not sure where you heard that the LX-900U and CLD-R7G are immune from the smearing. I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

I've used a lot of laserdisc players over the years. The only model I've ever used that had no smearing is the HLD-X9. I have heard that the HLD-X0 is similarly free of the issue, but I've never used one myself.
