In terms of Laserdisc Players, i know that Runco LJR II is very much aclaimed and people still desire this player.
I know it's the only THX certified one, but to me it' s only a certification, nothing else... Pioneer could have paid for it and have it in the HLD X9 and X0 certainly.
Is this player good in terms of picture quality?
There are 3 Versions of it...i realy don't know the dference....it is worth to buy the best version?

If you can get it very cheap, yes. Otherwise it is much better to get the X0 or X9.

Sound and video is not magic, it is pure physics. Physics that can be magical

There was an original Runco LJR and then two versions of the LJR II from what I remember which was the initial submission for THX certification and then the final which was approved.

This is the Panasonic LX-900U with improvements, most prominent they had MSB remove the Video AGC limiter Panasonic designed into the LX-900U.

Panasonic quit supporting these years ago with parts, Runco also did not have a stock. If you saw the Runco and high end Pioneer then you would see that some prefer the Pioneer for Video. The Runco also had the MSB audio improvements.

It was a good machine. You would have to decide if you thought it was better than a Pioneer, they gave each other a run for the money. I'll keep my CLD-97.

I have the CLD-97 and Panasonic LX-1000u which is very similar in picture to LX-900u. To my eyes cld-97 has lesser visible noise but 1000u is a bit sharper.900u has digital noise reduction(1000u does not), I keep CLD-97s noise reduction turned off.

I view these on calibrated Pioneer plasma monitor and processed via Crystalio II.

I would like to buya Runco LJR just for the looks of it

I am using Faroudja DCDi custom settings. Faroudja has some 10-12 adjustments first a few makes picture sharper. I couldnt figure the rest. I increased the first few adjustments to 1 or 2 from 0. Analog noise reduction mid settings. the other two noise reducton settings are off.

chroma filter in adaptive settings. 3d comb filter on. comb filter settings in default settings or bump up 1 or 2 knotch.

very clean and sharp picture.
