I have a couple of LD-W1's. One that has an AC3 RF upgrade, but it has a line of vertical dots during playback. I have another working unit, but it doesn't have the RF output. Anyone know of any companies out there that still repair or upgrade these units?

Thanks!

DVD Players (Standard Def)
Talk about the standard def DVD (and LD) equipment that gives us so much entertainment. Please post software info and questions in the software area. NOTE...We do not allow the chat on copying of software.

This is the right forum for Laserdisc, as far as I can tell.

Sorry boys.

I took literally what is written in this inadequately worded thread heading: >>DVD Players (Standard Def)<< My purpose was to help the OP make sure that folks familiar with LD players would see his post.

Maybe a moderator can revise it to >>DVD and Laser Disc Players<<.

If the OP can find a good tech, it is possible to mod Pioneer players as described here. I have done a few myself back in the day.

I think that opening both LD players one can figure out easy how to move the AC3 RF module from one (that has problems with image) to the other.

I, also think laserdisc should be in the fourm heading. There seems to be almost as many posts related to laserdisc rather SD DVD. (480i)

I think there will be continued interest in LD after DVD becomes a footnote in history.

The format, software and associated hardware is just so much more interesting than DVD. Look how many threads there have been in the past few years from ppl. looking to get into LD for no other reason than pure curiosity.

Will an obsolete DVD format engender this type of enthusiasm in 10 years?

I don't think so. The discs and players will go into the garbage and nobody will care. Sometimes it's just not about the technical merits of the medium.

IMHO, of course.
