Hey guys, I hope I'm in the right place. Reading through other threads, I see there are some pretty handy people on here with old Pioneer laserdisc players.
I just picked up a CLD-V5000 player from a guy who said it was working perfectly when he tested it.
I plugged it in, and DISC flashes on the LCD screen, as well as CD and LD buttons flash at the same time/rate as DISC does on the LCD. I assume this is what happens when it wants you to put a disc in. I open the tray put a LD disc in, close it, and nothing happens. I took it out, closed the LD tray, and opened the CD tray to put a CD in. Same thing when it's closed with a disc in it: The DISC, LD and CD all still flash.
I turned it off, and now it says OFF with a dash on either side of the OFF flashes, and continues for as long as it's plugged in. It doesn't seem to go into standby mode. It also will not let me turn it back on unless I unplug it and plug it back in. There are no error codes or anything.
I took the top off of it to see what's going in in there. The disc won't spin up, as well as the laser doesn't do it's up/down motion in search for a disc after the tray is closed.
Has anyone heard of this problem?? Any help would be appreciated :)
I found the problem. The ribbon cable between the pickup mechanism and the main board where it connects to is cut across 3 circuits. Finding a replacement is proving to be very difficult to me... Does anyone know where to find a replacement? It's about 26 inches long, 23 pins and says AWM 20696 80C VW-1
