Recording streaming content from Chromecast

I recently dumped Comcast for DirecTV now (via chromecast). I'm trying to find out what equipment I would need to get in order to be able to record streaming tv shows from the chromecast device to my Magnavox 535 HDD DVD Recorder. I had read that some HDMI to RCA converters would not work for this purpose.
Also, are there more copy protection issues with streaming that with a cable or satellite service?

Thanks

If you have access to a HDMI out, one of those relatively cheap(<$50) HDMI to composite/S-video converters should work just fine. The cheaper ones like that don't pass on any CP that might be present, so you should be good there.
Note the quality through such a converter won't be as good as a native S-video or even composite device but should still be acceptable. Lenkeng or it's many variants is the most common lesser priced brands.
