How would Oppo 970 work with 4K OLED?

Im thinking of buying last years 55 Oled B to mount over my fireplace in my living room to use as a secondary tv for news and occasional dvd concert and film viewing. My Condo came with built in 5.1 speakers and in wall connections to fireplace mount but they are old school component cables in wall.I already have a dedicated theater room so I want to use my old Oppo 970 (that still works great) for dvd upconversion to 4K if its possible. What would be best setting in the Oppo 970 for video to get best picture on my 4K? thanks for your help. Matt

You're probably going to have to experiment; it's been a long time. I had the 971 and 980, but not the 970.

OPPO still has the manual online: http://www.oppodigital.com/support/d...d_support.aspx.

Browsing that, I see the output resolution ranges from 480i to 1080i. Your standard options:

  • 480i: TV does both deinterlacing and scaling
  • 480p: player deinterlaces, TV scales
  • 720p: player deinterlaces, scales to 720, TV scales that to 4k
  • 1080i: player deinterlaces, scales to 1080, re-interlaces, TV deinterlaces that and scales to 4k

As a general rule simpler is better, but theory is not always reflected in practice. TVs sometimes treat 480 video poorly, by non-defeatable overscanning for example. Test patterns on a calibration disc would show that.

In other players I would advise using 1080p output but the 970 doesn't have that.

You have small choices in color space: Auto, YCbCr 4:4:4, RGB. I'll bet Auto is the same as the YCbCr.

Aspect ratio: Wide/Squeeze so that 4:3 DVDs are pillarboxed correctly.
