Go wired! Should almost be a must for the HT crowd.

I second what whiskaz said... plus another consideration.

Let's see here.... start streaming wirelessly from Local PC server to V880N player in nice HT room. Get up and make popcorn in a microwave unfotunately located between WiFi tranmistter/receiver and V880N. Friends and family in HT room start yelling about the movie/show braking up into a nice digitized image and stuttering sound. Umm Wireless + interference....

I'm going good old CAT-5e.

Now if they'd only shipping these puppies and let a first round of AVS members buying it to put out good reviews.

does anyone know if swapping the non-us power plug that comes with the 880 for any old us power plug that fits the back... would cause a problem?

Been looking around for some open source media centers that may work with this 880N. Has anyone come across any. Looking specifically for one that works on OS X. I know its tough to say if it will work or not, just wondering if anyone has been doing research onthis topic.

Any ideas if there is a way you could hack the software and use the network to stream what's playing on your desktop?

When an episode of Walker Texas Ranger was aired in France, the French surrendered to Chuck Norris just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunate to make this announcement that the 5/24 release for V880N is being delayed. We did not want to accept pre-order or prepayment as we anticipated the difficulties of launching a new product on time.

The extremephoto website says:

"V880N: Based on Momitsu's latest information, the V880N launch originally scheduled for 5/24 no longer holds, we are expecting a 3-4 weeks delay, i.e. late June. "

http://www.momitsu.com/dvd_880nspec.html

I think a firmware update would allow the super-G cards to be used.. I mean it's got a pcmcia slot so why not? 108mbps card so approx~ 50mbps throughput would be enough to stream dvds or mpeg off the the pc.

Can someone tell me if a receiver is required for dts. It says dts out in the specs so does it decode dts for you?

The V880N is quite likely still built on top of uClinux. This means that the cards that are most likely to work are those which already work under Linux. 802.11g drivers for Linux are just starting to come out, so it might be a while before embedded vendors integrate any support.

I think if this feature was incorporated quickly, this dvd player would be "the best dvd player" winner considering the price.

Not necessarily. If it's still built on the Sigma Design EM8500 one-chip digital media processor (and I don't have any reason to suspect that it won't be), the deinterlacer won't be great. I've not seen the output of a EM8500-based player - I'm just going on information from the DVD shootout.

I still want to get my hands on this player, but it's the networked media features that I find interesting, not the overall PQ. I think that it's possible that the Samsung DVD-HD941 could fix the black level and MPEG artifacts that are in the HD931 to be a better overall DVD player for a cheaper price.

Anyone have the phone # to Cypress Ltd. Directshop? My email to them to cancel the pre-order or use the funds to purchase a V880 unit has gone unanswered.

It would be nice if someone offered a DVD player that had all the features: WM9 HD discs, Networked, DivX playback, All formats of burned DVD and CDs, both Hi-Rez audio, DVI and HDMI connectors (or guarantee of no HDMI to DVI issues, this scares me on the Sammy 941), discrete IR codes, upscale custom resolutions, region and macro-vision options, and I'm sure I'm forgetting some of them.

Unfortunately this fictitious player would not be in the $300-$500 price range so it's either Hi-Res audio (Sammy 941) OR WM9 (Bravo D3) OR Networked (Momitsu V880N). Those are what I consider the BIG features and the ones that seem to be unfortunately mutually exclusive.

To get back on topic, anyone who preordered a V880N get an email with more information? Any notice from Momitsu floating around on the delay? I am very eager to get to read the first reviews from fellow AVS members... Here's to hoping for no loader problems.

Here is some information. I asked Cypress to cancel the pre-order and apply funds to a new V880. They've gone silent and haven't responded.

I was hoping to provoke a response that either they would have it by X date or yeah, delay justifies refund.

Hmm, this doesn't smell good. While they were taking preorders they were returning emails very quickly. Now, my emails have also gone unanswered.

If they are taking the money and running we may have a problem. I don't believe that credit card companies will do chargebacks against paypal.

Has anybody heard anything from Cypress? They are listed on Momitsu's site as an authorized dealer and I searched the formum and there seemed to be many possitive experiences ordering 880's from them.

I hope that I am just being paranoid.

Just to be clear, I wasn't accusing anyone of anything. I'm sure that there is nothing fishy going on.

I guess that I just got used to his almost unbelievably quick replies. I'll give him a couple more days.

I'm still very interested in the 880n. The delay is killing me. I am most interested to see how well the networking feature works.
