For those waiting on the confirmation from Momitsu regarding the Video Input Module. I have sent my questions to Momitsu and still waiting for a response. I'm hoping that it is a misunderstanding - I will keep you informed.

How much hard disk space does V880N come with? Can one increase that space?

For those serious about getting this player question:

If it will not support DVD menu's... like I have all my DVD's setup on my server currently, what would be the best way to convert them for easy playback on the 880N? Or.... best just to wait to see how it really works before converting all the DVD's on the server????

Either play the vob's, or rip them to xvid/divx.

I would not want to lose quality, so RIPPING them to xvid or divx is not a possibility. Looks like just playing the VOB file may be one of the only other options...

Does it have to be converted to just one VOB file?

I will be soooooooo disappointed if it doesn't have the input module available. I kept waiting to buy an 880N, but now I'll have to wait some more.

Seems hard to get an answer on this one...does anyone really know if the V880N will play a DVD ripped to a hard drive (IFO/VOB files) or if it will only have the capability to be pointed at and play a single VOB file?

Danabw, great question but who has the answer. If we could play the
DVD's rpped to a hard drive and upscale that would be great. I only
wish that they would include usb 2.0 instead of 1.0 when they
release the V880N

Maybe you should have said it's the best commercial receiver. THE best
DVB Receiver is "VDR" and much more universal und fully configurable.
Its a Linux project and its freeware

@Lightningman

Yes you're right, there is no definition of "best".

In my point of view a Dreambox is a Linux Project and Freeware only with a much cheaper Hardware than a VDR-Box

We're here in the DVD-Forum.... why? because people won't hassle around with a HTPC (or a VDR-Box) the want something nearly "Plug&Play" (with a once flashed Dreambox you can run a new Firmware on a USB-Memory-Stick) that's Plug&Play

Hi,
I was referred to this thread, I have read it all , ( I think ) , but would be grateful of any help with my questions. Thankyou . Please read below,

Hi ,
Has anyone heard if the new 880N, which is soon to arrive has any improvements , " component wise " in comparison to the V880?.
Has Momitsu taken on board or ever commented about the improvements , or mods performed by buyers of this product?.
For example mods to the video cable , power supply, or the dvd loader etc.
I was going to buy a Momitsu V880 , but have reluctantly held off for the arrival of the V880N. Now that I hear that it has no input module, will the V880N be a better choice any way?.
I would be very interested to here anyones thoughts on this topic?.
Thankyou,
Regards
Juz

Juz,

Both the Momitsu V880 and soon V880N are availabile in Australia in modified versions, with a full 12 month Australian Warranty.

The Power Supply is modiied for lower noise and either the Component or RGBHV outputs are brought to true 75 ohm BNC sockets on the rear panel, with the internal video switch bypassed.

The latest DVD loaders are extremely reliable and do not need changing.

I have the V880N on backorder and expect delivery in the first week of July. Until then nobody is certain of the performance upgrades that have been incorporated in the design.

I'm still waiting to hear from Momitsu on the Video input Module, but expect to have an answer today. Stay tuned.

Azzad: Who modifies these Momistsus in Australia? Is the the company itself or a dealer? How much premium do they attach to it, if its a dealer? Reason I ask is that I am interested in a Momitsu and am wondering when to buy it. Maybe once V880N is released, by which they would have addressed some issues in V880 as well.

Thanks.

I called Momitsu and spoke to my account rep again to clarify some of the points about the V880N and the Video Input Module. In the process I now have a contact with one of the Engineers and have some solid answers.

The V880N is on track for shipping by the 28th June. Initial production priority will be given to backorders.

The Video Input Module WILL fit into the V880N, my previous comments were a misunderstanding about models and options. The hardware design is complete and they are currently working on the software. The module is expected to be available in August.

There is currently space inside the V880N to fit the Video Input Module - it fits internally and the connectors come through pre-punched holes in the back panel. These holes are covered of course.

They are modified by the Australian distributor, the modifications are not factory supported so the distributor offers the warranty.

The V880N will be here in about 2 weeks, we'll know a lot more then. I'll be sure to pass my observations onto the forums.

Sorry haven't read the whole thread but I got two questions.

1.Will HDCP be forced on the DVI-output or can it be turned off ?
2.Will I be able to add custom resolutions as you can with the 880 ?

Thanks

Yeah well I asked them a while ago if monitors without HDCP would be compatible and they said yes....wether or not u can turn it of is unknown to me

And that is fantastic news about the input moduel, I will still probebly wait untill August tho as I don't think any companies will send me the input module free 2 months after my original order.

Would you please do me a favour and ask one of these engineers if it would be possible in any way to fit the input module to the plain V880,as I don't want the network capabilities, but would like to upscale inputs.
I asked momitsu sales and their answer was a short "the input module comes on the V880N only".If it won't work, could you please ask them why?
I don't care if it means soldering heaps of wires,I want one .

Sorry to say, but the Input module needs the Sigmadesign 8550 Chip from the V880N

Link

Your V880 has only the 8500 Chip inside!

Yes ist looks sweet.....

Have a look at THIS

That's a KISS DP-600 DVD-Player (without Video-In) with the 8620L inside......

It's a pitty that KISS (like other manufacturer) is talking about this DVD-Player for more then 10 Month, but there is no Information (it's even difficult to find on their Webside) if it's ever been realised

Has anyone heard any info about V88N lately?

Also, IMO since this is the 2nd gen DVI player, I hope they fixed the loader, they better, because there's no excuse if they didn't, plus, this thing is going to cost $400 plus shipping. And (I think) if anyone should buy a $400 DVD player, they shouldn't have to open up the case (even though it's fun to do the mods). - that just me.
