Sorry, I was going from memory when I posted that last night, and my suggestion was obviously incorrect. If you follow DigiPete's instructions, it should work, as I just went back in to verify.

Sorry if this question is anwered already. Could you tell your opinions of 3910's compatibility with DVD-A titles? I saw somebody complaining about Yamaha s2500 and Denon 3910 in DVD-A compatibility. I can't buy 3910 if it is as bad as Yamaha s2500....

I've had 0 problems with the few DVD-A discs that I've played.

The 3910 is based on the Denon 5900, not any Pioneer.

The transport is custom-made for Denon. Not shared with other brands.

Someone, about three pages back, mentioned a "horizontal mess" during the viewing of a Billy Connolly DVD that was Region 2.

Now, I'm no expert (as you'll learn in about ten seconds' time), but this "scrolling" problem appears to be quite normal.

It's something to do with PAL to NTSC conversion. Basically, any UK TV shows with horizontal end credits don't show up on NTSC due to refresh rates. Probably. Yeah, probably!

Anyway, for further evidence of this, check the "new" shows on BBC America, such as Alan Partridge. If you have the PAL season 2 DVD (which I thoroughly recommend you buy from Amazon.co.uk), the credits are unreadable too.

This can't be fixed... at least, BBC America can't fix it. BBC America simply removes the credits when they show the program, and "redo" them on a black background, moving vertically.

Fascinating, eh?

To keep this Denon-related, can anyone sum up the best way to get the 3910 multi-region without being scammed by the "universal DVD player" websites. I assume there's a hack?

(Sorry if this was mentioned previously -- couldn't find it!)

Cheers

S

Yes, I was. Thank you guys for your answers. Sounds like 3910 is not as robust as 47Ai/59AVi... -.-;;

Huh? All reviews state the opposite (the 3910 has better build quality than the Pioneer)!

I meant it in terms of the title compatibility. 3910 has definitely better build quality.

The "new" firmware arrived in today's mail. What a disappointment. It's the same July firmware I requested 2 months ago, that I already downloaded 2-3 weeks ago since I was tired of waiting. This answers the question of whether brand new firmware is available in the US: definitely not.

I received the "new" firmware last week. I loaded it with no problems. Just strange that it took them so long getting it out.

I experience drop-outs with DualDiscs. perzon57 also reported this problem and was able to resolve it with the latest European firmware update (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...&&#post6166978). I have the latest US firmware. Denon never replied to my report about this problem. My 3910 is connected via i.LINK to an IR RDC-7.1. I only have one DVD-A title and it works OK. I also have some 96/24 PCM DVDs and SACDs and they too work OK.

I have a dedicate DAC for CD playback and I want to connect the 3910 to it using the coax digital. However, I have i.Link/1394/firewire connected to my Pioneer Elite 59TXi for multichannel SACD and DVD-A, and every time I want to use the coax link for CD I will have to disabled the 1394 output in the setup menu. It is very frustrating to switch back and forth between coax and 1394 in the menu everytime I switch disc types. Can you "trick" the 3910 to output digitial audio on both i.Link and the coax out for CD? Is this even possible?

(Yes, I have tried to read and search the entire thread and I have combed through ~100 pages of info. but I haven't seen any info on this )

SothothYog,
I was the one that noticed this problem with the Billy Connelly side scrolling credits.. but why would there be any PAL to NTSC conversion? Isn´t the 3910 sending out 576p50hz and the projector(infocus 5700) displaying exactly that?

Does anyone know that has been done in the new 6609-C(I currently have the "B" one) firmware?

It seems that the previous firmware download page no longer exists. After registering as an owner on the new site, I get a message that says "No downloads are currently available for this product".

I'm at the most recent level (DL3), but do not want to miss anything going forward.

Anyone get something different ?

Paul.

I got the same thing. It's my hope, now that we're in the "owners club" updates will be sent via e-mail prior to the general public getting them.

That is the most current firmware, which is why the site tells you that there is nothing more recent for you. You do have to keep checking the site every 1-2 months since Denon does not automatically email owners when new firmware becomes available.

Or subscribe to this thread - if you haven't already - as these folks are all OVER the firmware upgrades issue.

I've owned the 3910 ever since it came out and never really needed to know the answer to this question until now. Is there anyway to vertically stretch a 2.35:1 picture so that an anamorphic lens (in front of a projector of course) can unstretch it again to properly show the 2.35:1 picture? I know the stretch and zoom functions are pretty limited, but I thought if anyone would know, you guys would. Thanks!

I'm not yet an owner of an 3910 but will be if it supports what I'm asking. In fact it is the only player (excluding really expensive ones) which might have appropriate bass management. 3910 has quite nice bass management. As far as I understand it is done in PCM. Manual states that BM can be used with DVD-A and after DSD->PCM conversion with SACD also. But... How about normal CD's? I would guess so but could some owner verify this?

I'm planning to use the following combination:
CD's PCM
+
Analog 5.1 output
+
Bass management

Does BM work with music CD's through analog 5.1 output ?
Does it work without sound being automatically converted to DPL2 (or similiar like happens in some players)?

It's my understanding that the 3910 has no "surround modes" that derive 5.1 - or any surround format - from 2-channel sources. Hopefully, you'll get replies from some who actually play CD's on their units.

Jovani, welcome! Although the 3910 has its minor shortcomings (IMHO), you have acquired an excellent piece of equipment. Now that your decision has been made, it's time to enjoy!!

Wow, I like friendly peeps....
I had a q- do they make an HDMI or DVI to component..
Dumb question yes, but I wonder if the upconversion is the key to PQ in the 3910?
