Hi
I'm a new member and is very happy to join you all...
I recently bought the Denon 3910 recently during a trip to Asia and have been following the different upgrades available through this forum. Unfortunately for me Denon is not represented in my country ( Mauritius ) and upgrade is impossible here.
I earnestly request any member who has the upgrade to download it to me via my mail add callooreza@hotmail.com
I have learny through this forum that the latest ugrade is -8 and I'm still at -3. Thank you.
Reza

I e-mailed the files to you. You can also find them at Denon's website (www.usa.denon.com).

Jason

Thank you very much. I have not received them yet. I have tried before at Denon's website but thr serial # I entered was refused since my set was bought in Asia.
Anyway, I hope that this will fix the problems mentioned throughout the forum especially the green push on progressive scan . Have you been able to fix them?
Also do you know if the upgrades are cumulative?
Thanks

Reza

REZA, will hotmail allow a file of that size? I think it is around 1.4MB zipped.

I asked earlier if upgrades were cumulative but only got one reply. I assume so as you can't get any other version except -8 now.

When you update the eprom it writes a new image, it completely replaces the image that was there before. Therefore the question as to whether it includes previous revisions is yes, as the act of replacing the image would not only undo the previous updates, but replaces the base code as well. It is very similar to replacing a bios on a computer.

Hello all!

I went to the Denon site and entered my DVD-3910 info, including serial #. I received the -8 firmware update shortly afterwards (less than a week) and the update went fine.

Question: Am I now "subscribed" to any and all future firmware updates from Denon? In other words, when -9, -10, etc are released, will I automatically receive them from Denon? Or will I have to request them each time they are issued?

Great forum, btw!

Best,

Doug

Reza, I think hotmail has a 1MB maximunm for attachments. You might try another provider that accepts attachments up to 2MB. Or if you know someone there that can accept it.

Mauritius is a gorgeous place!

djnewlin, I have gotten versions 5, 6, and 8 from their website after entering in my serial # and other info, but was never proactively told about any of them. So, no, I doubt you'll automatically receive anything. I found out about them from the AVS Forum.

BillP,

Thanks for the tip!

I had a feeling that might be the case...

Oh well, that just gives me yet another reason to keep up to date on this forum!

Best,

Technic,

Did you receive the upgrade via your e-mail? I have received it since hotmail's attachment is 1MB max while the files are 1.4MB.

Here's the link to the page where you enter the model and serial number.

http://www.usa.denon.com/support/upgrades.asp

I did mine from work and didn't have the s/n handy, so I used the one from the rear photo of the 3910 at their site!

Works like a champ...at least for now!

Got a question. I am doing the video adjustments via DVE and I cannot get it to where I can see the outside bars on the PLUGE pattern. I had no problem seeing them and adjusting them out with the 2910.

Sammy DLP via DVI and 3910 set to Normal and 0

Any suggestions?

Martin, I tried enhansed and every other combination. I even used the THX Optimizer on one of my Star Wars DVD and it looked like crap. The 8 bar brightness setting was a joke. The 2910 did a fantastic job on every test. I think it is going back. One thing I noticed was when I switched to M1 - M5 on picture adjust they were all the same with no adjustments but when I went to STD, the display got much brighter.

Hi jazzcat,

Your situation sounds really weird?
Mine has no issue displaying BTB information and my contranst is fine too.
I am in Australia and am running firmware 5.

What firmware are you running?

Hi Jason,

I just downloaded the V8. Thanks for your help.

As I don't stay in US, I wonder this firmware V8 be able to play multi-region DVD? As I've several Region 1, 2, 3 and 4 DVDs. Can you please advice?

I believe that the most recent region-free firmware was -5, but I don't know for sure. I've heard that another region-free firmware was in the works, but that may just be rumor. If region-free is a must, you may want to stick with -5.

Jazzcat,

There's got to be something wrong either in the settings or with your 3910 itself...or there's something wrong with the -8 firmware. I installed -8 firmware last week, but haven't been able to use my Avia disc because a friend of mine borrowed it. I did re-initialize my player after installing the new firmware, so I need to go back in and make adjustments when I get my disc back.

Have other users of -8 experienced this problem, too?

Jason, unfortunately when I picked up the 3910 I upgraded to -8 as soon as I got it home so I can't say what the display looked like beforehand. That's why I would like to get a copy of -5 and run it again.

All settings are identical to the 2910. But I mucked around with every possible setting on the DLP and 3910. In enhanced mode, all 6 vertical stripes disappear from the PLUGE pattern! The overall pattern is a dull grey tint. Very soft as well. There is nothing I can do to see the 2 outside black vertical bars and the 2910 displayed them with ease.
