I'm familiar with the firmware upgrade but as near as I can tell your link just points to a seller on Ebay with a remote to hawk. The link to the Firmware is here:DVP-CX995V Firmware Upgrade
Well, I had a CX985V working well for quite a few years. The laser head went south and I picked up a CX995V reasonable priced on Ebid.
Have to say Sony didn't do a good job designing the UI on this thing. It''s probably even clunkier than the CX985V.
It is possible however to force it to go to the exact DVD you want.
first stop it if it's playing. Then
Hit the "Display/File" button to bring up the first Control Menu Display Screen.
The top most Tab shows the Disc being played.
With that tab in focus hit Enter. That will clear the Disc number and allow you to type in the specific DVD you want to navigate to. After entering the number hit PLAY and then immediately hit Enter. Done correctly that will over ride the CX995V's brain-dead behavior of trying FOREVER to play the current disc--either from the beginning or from wherever it left off. It still takes forever to load whatever you want but with the ability to force it to go directly to any disc on the carousel, bypassing everything in between, whenever YOU want---it's tolerable.
The CX995 is a convenient way to store DVD's but I certainly wouldn't recommend it beyond it's function as Plastic Warehousing. I got even attempting to load and track information on the 400 DVD's it holds well out of my system with it's predecessor. That feature isn't worth bothering with--even with a wireless keyboard hooked up--which is the only way to go if you want to use that "feature". I just keep track with a Word file now---I originally wrote an Access database but can't be bothered keeping up with that anymore.
One issue I haven't been able to resolve---other than I think it's just a gotta with the CX995. The 985V responding to a lot of Sony codes besides those on it's remote. Specifically it would recognize OBC 042 in various Sony remote protocols as a code to take it directly to A-B repeat
, without the necessity of traversing the Control Menu Display Screens.
I've tried every conceivable Sony protocol and likely code that I know of and nothing gets the CX995 to go directly to A-B Repeat. Anyway, I already know the code in the Sony26.73 remote protocol that should work is OBC 043, EFC 112, HEX 54 59. At this point I'm assuming it been gelded out of the somewhat changed Navigation functionality of the CS995. If anyone else has confirmed this let me know. I'll stop plugging every code possible through a JP1 interface.
