Bump- I'm also curious as to what upconverting DVD players everyone is using with their Panny X60's I just bought a 58PX60U this weekend and I'm looking for a reasonable (<$300) non-Faroudja upconverting DVD player to hold me over until the HD/BluRay thing gets sorted out.

Thanks,
John

I'm using a Sony DVP-NC85H. It's a 5-disc changer with HDMI out and I am more than satisfied with it.

I'm routing the HDMI through a Sony STR-DG800 7.1 AV Receiver (a nice little mid-range unit for those on a budget) to the HDMI-1 input on the set.

I don't have the videophile pedigree some of the posters here seem to have but I know what I like and I like this DVD/Plasma combination just fine.

Oppo at HDMI 480P. Oppo de-interlaces better but the Panny scales better. Plus the Panny is not a true 720P panel so when you send 720P, the Oppo upscales it and then the Panny scales it again. Gives you all kinds of digital artifacts.

Is this suppose to read Oppo 981 at HDMI 480P?

I'm too am trying to determine which Oppo player(970 or 981) will work best with
a Panasonic 50px600U.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

There is a ton about this in the forums, run a search. 971 is better but some say it macroblocks. YMMV.

Try running the moving plate on Avia. It will show you how much better the Oppo is at de-interlacing than the Panny.

Well this is handy, a question I haven't asked already answered.
Where are people getting their Oppo players? Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but I haven't seen any here in Canada. Does Best Buy carry them? If so, perhaps a trip down south is in order.

Online only, unless you live in Mountain View. There is one Canadian reseller listed here: http://www.oppodigital.com/wheretobuy.html.
