I don't know if there is anything you can do. I'd suggest you call Oppo. They have very reasonable repair rates or may be able to suggest a fix.

My 980h, that I just sold, had a quiet transport, so I don't think what you're hearing is normal.

My DV-980H has been going like a champ since 2008. For a hundred and something bucks, that's not bad. Am constantly surprised by how well the externals casing and the design style have held up - looks classier than most current day plasticy, jetsons-ish disc spinners.

Now that I moved the DV-980H to duties in my home office as an audio-only transport, I can hear a low but clearly audible sound from what seems to be the disc unit spinning irregularly. Am in dialogue with Oppo about it. Hopefully they'll come though with a solution.

BTW are you looking to offload any of those? If so, PM me....
Osamede,

How did the clean-up work out for you? Did OPPO offer any other solutions? I seem to recall that their repairs were in the sub-$100 range plus your shipping to them, but that was a few years ago.

I am hoping that all is well, as my DV-980h from 2007 (?) is still plugging away in my main theater as digital audio source to my AVR. Tracks recorded using MLP delivered via stick disk, I only know of this player being able to handle from MLP to amps. Coolest.

I do wish you luck on keeping your good machine purring along.

Mike
