Sorry Bob, this movie isn't for everyone. My wife and I found it dark, strange and depressing. It's less about Ellis Island and more about:

I agree - I thought that it was a very muddled production with a cumbersome plot - some realistic scenery and clothing, but otherwise not worth the viewing time.

"Hidden" is a 4-part British conspiracy-crime show starring Philip Glenister. Yipes, what a waste of time. When I got to the end, I thought that there MUST be another episode to go, but no---there are only four, and the whole story is as inconclusive as that last episode of Seinfeld. The acting, photography, script, everything--it's all a couple of notches below mediocre. I'd just finished watching Salamander, a far superior conspiracy show from Belgium that is being broadcast now in Season 2 (Netflix has the first season).

I'LL be watching for the 2nd season of salamander to show up - first was 4 starts, low budget but well executed

plus i did some business in belguim (Liege) for about 10 years - best advice i got from a belgium was that even the newstand vendor does nothing that isn't machiavelian.

"Southcliffe" is very similar in that it really doesn't resolve anything but it is well produced. I wonder if HBO will let Netflix show the two seasons of Channel 4's "Utopia". Apparently what HBO is going to do will be a bit different.

You think maybe HBO will have locked up the streaming rights to prevent Netflix from showing it?

I'll be getting the Series 2 BD from Amazon UK, the cinematography in this show alone is worth the purchase, just spectacular.

Well HBO didn't lock up the season one BD. It is region free and available on Amazon.com. Problem is that some folks said it still wouldn't play on their BD player. Mainly Sony players and that is what I have.

Which version?

The 2 disc version or the 1 disc version? I have the 2 disc version and although I have an all region Oppo I did set it to region A to see if it would play and it does, in fact that first used listing is mine that I'm selling, it was originally purchased from Amazon UK.

The 1 disc if you scroll down to the bottom has a link to forum reports of playback problems. The 2 disc version does not.

Yeah, the listings for that release are a bit confusing, something that is not uncommon at all on Amazon, especially with all of their different outlets around the world.

So, the 2 disc plays okay on a Sony?

just watched first four episodes of "Low Winter Sun" - got to recommend it, kind of "gritty" but well executed. Basic story line evolves around two detectives who murder another detective who's dirty but about to meet with internal affairs.

The two detectives actually remind me of a couple of cops i knew - kind of dark along the lines of The Killing" but moves a bit faster

I liked "Drones" though some folks didn't because they were probably expecting an action movie but it is based on a stage play and more about the moral implications of being a drone pilot.

not exactly a hidden gem but i couldn't find any mention of it - "Chuck" - a farsical comedy , storyline centers on a pair of US agents (CIA & NSA) and a geek computer repair tech. Actually pretty funny and tightly scripted - wife and i have gotten into the habit of watching one or two episodes to lighten the evening. The female CIA agent is definitely easy on the eyes.

No heavy lifting required watch this, but it will draw some laughs and ran 2007 thru 2011, so there are 5 years of episodes
